re. his legacy to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston[edit]
Thanks to this legacy, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston is the only non-French museum that owns more than one plate (it has 4 of these) from the 162-pieces tableware "service des arts industriels" (article in fr wiki) from the Manufacture nationale de Sèvres. Although that "service" was one of the largest created by Sèvres, very few pieces of it are found in museums. The British Museum, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York, the Rhode Island School of Design museum and the national museum of Cardiff each have one plate. In France, the Sèvres museum has quite a few (kept by the director before the service was given as "diplomatic gift" by Louis-Philippe) and the Louvre has 4 plates. 2 fruit dishes are in a private collection in Paris. And that's it. We don't know where the rest of it is. They are (of course) absolutely superb. One plate was sold by Christie's in 2004 for £35,850.
