Marshall[edit]

"Alfred Marshall, the most influential economist of the time..."

This line is very subjective and may cause ontroversy. I suggest that it be changed to:

"Alfred Marshall, one of the most influential economist of the time..."

[unsigned comment from 130.15.80.91 on 6 March 2006]

You may well be correct. But I will at least inject that being influential and being deservedly inlfuential are two different things. —SlamDiego 23:47, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

“ahead of his time”[edit]

A claim “his contributions were far ahead of his time” is either metaphorical or flatly absurd. In either case, something more literally true should be put in its place. —SlamDiego 23:44, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Review of Pigou's Riddle of the Tarriff[edit]

Pigou's work is "Riddle of the Tariff", with Tariff spelt correctly. Does anyone have a copy of Edgeworth's "Review" to verify his spelling? WP:TYPO John of Reading (talk) 09:20, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"From 1891 onward, he was appointed the founding editor of The Economic Journal." States the current article, erroneously. Edgeworth may have been "appointed the founding editor" in 1891, he may have been the editor after 1891. There can be only one founding editor and this person can be so appointed exactly once. Some additions of people to Lonford town may perhaps be more appropriately placed elsewhere ... Francis Ysidro Edgeworth is a candidate for move to Edgeworthstown where he was born for example - his article makes no mention of Longford Town. Comments welcome. Statistics[edit]

The article as it stands is almost exclusively about Edgeworth's work in economics, though the intro mentions that he was also important in statistics. If I recall correctly, he was one of the pioneers of multiple and partial correlation analysis, somewhat in advance of Karl Pearson. As multivariate analysis (e.g. principal components analysis and cluster analysis) is important in many fields, including AI, Edgeworth's contribution to this field is surely 'noteworthy'. Hopefully someone expert in the field (not me!) could provide a suitable addition.2A00:23C8:7907:4B01:7867:C42:4968:CD1D (talk) 23:48, 17 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
