Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Francisco Rodríguez (economist). Please take a moment to review my edit. COI tag[edit]

Hi. I've noticed you put a COI tag on Francisco Rodríguez that could be related to my editing. I'll ask you to state your sources for such COI at the time of the edits or remove the tag.Naldox (talk) 13:34, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Naldox:, regards. You have uploaded Francisco Rodríguez's picture in Wikimedia Commons, stating that it was your own work and that its description was "Economist Francisco Rodríguez during an interview in Caracas, on december 8th, 2019"[sic], which can lead to believe that you personally know Rodríguez or that you have a connection with him. Furthermore, over half of your main space edits since 2016 have been about Rodríguez (58%); an article where 47.7% of authorship and 36.7% are yours. Such is the case that after six months of inactivity, you have asked directly about the tag in the article only almost a week after it was placed.
If you believe you have a COI, per WP:DCOI, you should let other editors know about it. Best wishes! --NoonIcarus (talk) 15:05, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @NoonIcarus: as I stated before, photo was taken during an interview I did with Rodriguez in Caracas in December, 2019. As a journalist, I do have contact with sources, but as the ethics code of my profession states, we should disclose COI beforehand. I do not have a COI in this case. I was just checking in my edits today, since I believe I'm gonna start a project on Venezuelan media. I think it was just timing, and the fact that I have some free time today. In any case, WE do have an open discussion about Rodríguez's article and its references open since June. Regards, Naldox (talk) 16:17, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks for your replies, @Naldox:, they help to clarify the situation, I hope likewise my explanations have been satisfactory enough. Please let me know how I can help in any other way. Best regards. --NoonIcarus (talk) 16:45, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I just left a comment disclosing my COI and asking if the COI tag could be removed considering that the edits that caused the tag are no longer on the article. Could you please help me with it? Thank you. ~~~~ Crmpress (talk) 14:49, 17 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @NoonIcarus:Why is it the COI notification still hanging in Francisco Rodríguez. It is actually refraining me to do any other changes, such as primary sources. Why is this still an issue and how do we solve this? Do we need to upscale this? Regards, Naldox (talk) 22:02, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Naldox: Hi. The COI tag remains because you have admitted mantaining a relation with the subject of the article, and it's important to keep in order for other editors to learn and solve potential issues. The tag does not refrain you from continuing editing in the article, although it strongly encourages you not to. You can continue using the talk page to express proposals or ideas. Also, what do you mean with "upscale"? Best wishes. --NoonIcarus (talk) 15:49, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @NoonIcarus I work with Mr Rodriguez and we would like to know if there is a possibility to remove the conflict of interest tag, considering that the edits made by Naldoxx are no longer part of the page. At the same time, we believe under Wikipedia's policy this would constitute a "very obvious error". Please let me know if you need any further information and thanks in advance for your help. Best. Crmpress (talk) 21:44, 24 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Crmpress: Hi! Thanks for your message, as well as for disclosing the COI. First, I have to ask if you have any relationship with Naldox.

There is plenty of information that was added by Naldox that remain: the fact that Rodríguez was economic and financial advisory of the Venezuelan National Assembly, chief economist Torino Economics, and advisor to Henri Falcón, not to mention the image in the infobox. The page statistics show that Naldox is still the author of over half of the article, and regardless of the content he is also the user with most edits, which definitely makes him a main contributor. Considering all of this, removing the tag would not be appropriate. --NoonIcarus (talk) 15:39, 28 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Factual Corrections[edit]

{{Connected contributor|User1=Tny-2023 |U1-declared=yes|}

I am the subject of this article. In consistency with the Wikipedia policy on biographies of living persons, I have edited factually incorrect information from the article. I note that the Wikipedia policy states that the subjects of biographical articles may edit articles in cases that include:

  • correcting straightforward errors of fact
  • removing contentious material that is unsourced or poorly sourced

Both of the changes I have made fall into these categories:

(1) I have updated my institutional affiliation. Incomplete or outdated information on institutional affiliation is a straightforward error of fact. I have thus included information on my main affiliation at the University of Denver.

(2) I have deleted a paragraph which contained poorly sourced contentious material. The paragraph falsely alleged that the London-based investment fund Ashmore declared before a New York court that I had endorsed in 2016 the legality of the PDVSA 2020 bond swap. This statement is false, as there is no declaration of said investment fund making that claim. Neither of the two sources cited by the editor support that claim.

The claim cited two sources. One is a 2020 article by Petroguia, titled "Fondo Ashmore asegura que grupo de Primero Justicia avaló legalidad del bono PDVSA 2020". The article does not claim that I endorsed the swap. It concerns the position of the Justice First party with respect to the swap. The article references a report in which I, working as a research analyst, interpreted a resolution approved by the National Assembly in 2016 regarding the swap, and in which the National Assembly did not claim that the issuance was illegal. There is a huge difference between asserting, as part of an analysis of a National Assembly decision, that the National Assembly did not question the legality of the issuance, and "endorsing the legality of the swap", as was claimed in the text that I deleted.

The second source is a 2020 article by Contrapunto, titled "Fondo Ashmore asegura que Francisco Rodríguez y Rafael Guzmán avalaron legalidad del bono Pdvsa 2020." In that case, the article does claim that I endorsed the issuance. But the article cites no source other than a tweet published by journalist Maibort Petit. That tweet does not contain a link to the Ashmore declaration nor any evidence in support of its assertion.

In sum, neither of the sources cited support the claim that Ashmore stated that I endorsed the issuance. The claim is false and is not supported by any of the court filings in question. Therefore, the paragraph in question falls under the category of "contentious material about living persons (or, in some cases, recently deceased) that is unsourced or poorly sourced" and must thus "be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion."

Kind regards, thank you for your feedback. First, you should be aware of Wikipedia's conflict of interest policy, which strongly discourages editing on pages whose topic you have close personal connection with. That includes, of course, an article about yourself.
I have rewritten the content based on the information and provided an additional source from La Gran Aldea. Best wishes, --NoonIcarus (talk) 15:57, 20 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Dear @NoonIcarus
Thanks for your response. As I noted, my edit corrected straightforward errors of fact and was thus in compliance with the Wikipedia policy.
Regrettably, the text as edited continues to be factually incorrect.
First, you should note that the news portal Contrapunto deleted the note that you use as source, in recognition that the information contained therein was false. You can verify this by following the original link.
The text as you have edited it is not supported by any of the two remaining quotes. The text states that in September 2016 I "published a report concluding that the PDVSA bond swap did not need the approval of the National Assembly." But the Petroguía article that you reference does not claim that the report took any stance on the legality of the issuance. It simply notes that the report recounted a conversation with legislators and described the opinions expressed therein by legislators. And the interview with Hernández does not make any reference to the September 12 report.
There is thus no evidence to support the claim made in the text that I published a report concluding that the PDVSA bond swap did not need the approval of the National Assembly.
Wikipedia policy states that "Pages about living persons must be made carefully...Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a tabloid paper (newspaper)... The possibility of harm to living subjects is one of the important factors to be considered when using editorial decision...Heated, arguable, material about living persons that is unsourced (without references) or poorly sourced—even if the content is negative (bad), positive (good), or just questionable—should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion."
In keeping with this policy, I respectfully request that you delete the factually incorrect statement in my biography.
Regards
