ETR 1000 or ETR 400?[edit]

This project has been referred to as ETR 1000 since at least 2010. If it was renamed to ETR 400, I cannot find any references for this. --128.68.63.190 (talk) 11:03, 3 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Again: Frecciarossa 1000 is a commercial name. The DMU is enlisted as ETR400 - and that indeed felt strange -, please refer to official documentation (i.e. by ANSF). ETR1000 is a name used incorrectly even by railwaymen.

BTW, no Italian engine.multiple unit group has a 4 digit group number.

Only diesel engines or DMU had 4 digit unit number, where the first number was the builder (i.e. 668.1400 is the DMU of the group 668, built by Fiat of the 400 subgroup, D342.4001 was built by Ansaldo (4), the D342.3001 was built by OM and the 342.2001 was built by Breda, all being the first engine built by each manufacturer.

BTW, I am trying to obtain the permission to use a picture of the side of a car in the consist where, below the "Frecciarossa 1000" you read clearly 93 83 4Bold text400 825Bold text-6 I-TI, the full UIC marking UIC_identification_marking_for_tractive_stock,List_of_UIC_country_codes:

4 Italian Auhtority ANSF with the document ANSF 04658/09 del 17-08-2009 states that the fifth digit in the UIC marks the vehicle type (as a traction engine)

 0 - unspecialized
 1 - traction only (i.e. slug)
2 - traction and driving cab
3 - traction, driving cab and first class passenger compartment
4 - traction, driving cab and second class passenger compartment
5 - traction and first class passenger compartment
6 - traction and second class passenger compartment

The correct name, both for manufacturers and Ferrovie dello Stato, is ETR1000, so this one should be used:

https://www.fsitaliane.it/content/fsitaliane/it/innovazione/tecnologie-per-i-trasporti/frecciarossa-1000.html

https://www.hitachirail.com/it/prodotti-e-soluzioni/i-nostri-treni/alta-velocita/

This classification is also used by the italian National Transportation Authority:

I have rearranged the Article, providing various external link to testify the corret classification (ETR1000). I hope that the considerations made clarify everythings.
