Broader meaning[edit]

Actually, 'free, prior and informed consent' has important broader meaning than reflected in the current form of this article. It is a central concept also in research ethics (see informed consent). Kind regards, DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 11:54, 15 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

In the introduction section, reference is made to local communities. What is that based upon? The only context that I know of that formally requires the application of FPIC is the UNDRIP and it thus only applies to signatories of that Declaration. More in general, I think the article should start off by describing what FPIC is, give an overview of its development, a section on UNDRIP, then application areas of which REDD+ (rather than "climate change negotiations") is one.
