Brick and Mortar stores only

I think FCBD is for brick and mortar stores only. I think I read somewhere that web shops can't get the fcbd comics from Diamond. Can somebody confirm this, with source? 195.35.160.133 (talk) 11:24, 2 March 2010 (UTC) Martin.

German fcbd

Starting on May 8, 2010, Germany will have their own version of fcdb called Gratis-Comic Tag. Perhaps the article should mention this? Details at www.gratiscomictag.de 195.35.160.133 (talk) 11:35, 2 March 2010 (UTC) Martin.

yes, please include that information. I don't read German, so if you would, please edit the article to include the German version of FCBD. Vampyrecat (talk) 21:23, 30 March 2010 (UTC) P.S. It could go in the "Related Events" section if that makes sense to you. Vampyrecat (talk) 21:25, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
I can read German and English, but am Dutch. I don't trust my English enough to make more than tiny changes to English articles; that is why I put this on the Talk-page. Perhaps somebody else can do it? The OP. 195.35.160.133 (talk) 15:45, 6 April 2010 (UTC) Martin.

Thanks. The German day was inspired by the American day. Feel free to add that fact too. The OP. 195.35.160.133 (talk) 11:11, 20 April 2010 (UTC) Martin.

GA Review

This review is transcluded from Talk:Free Comic Book Day/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the review.

Reviewer: Zanimum (talk · contribs) 23:24, 4 July 2013 (UTC) The article is much cleaner than it was when I last saw it, a year or two ago. Thank you. That said, there's a bit of work that needs to be done.

Lead

  • The creation story should be only briefly mentioned in the lead, it's not the key information most people are looking for. You mention specific names and publications in the lead, but then don't repeat them in the history specifically. Focus more on the practicalities of the promotion.
  • Independent comic book stores... are their chain comic book stores? I presume you're meaning comic book stores or independent comic retailers, both of which mean "not Walmart or Borders", correct? (Apologies if Borders is dead, I'm Canadian and reviewing this offline.)

History

  • "and some offer cheaper back issues and other items to anyone who visits their establishments." This could be summed up as "and some retailers offer sales on selected stock." (Stadium Comics in Brampton, for example, typically offers at least a fraction off new titles, as well.)
  • You don't mention that some of the retailers limit.

Purpose and effectiveness

  • The Jim Lee photo... I presume that was from a signing on FCDB, not just him on a random day with that issue? You don't need to clarify that in the caption, but you really should address the fact that more ambitious retailers hold events: signings, artists drawing/selling, costume contests... didn't FCBD's organizers have their own international costume contest in 2012 or so?
  • "as well as work from independent publishers." The link there to publishers is useless. I was hoping it lead to a list on Wikipedia of notable independent comic publishers. Can you nix that link, and provide a couple of examples?
  • Ref 21: what year, at least, was this published? You have the date of retrieval, but that's it.

Related events

  • I think that all of the "related events" show how effective the promotion is. Why not turn it into a paragraph, and merge?
  • Flanders should be mentioned by name in the article, with "the Dutch speaking part of Belgium" following it. I agree the region is obscure, but the way the article is now would be insulting to Wikipedia readers from Flanders.
  • Can you nuke the Free RPG Day citation needed tag with a reference?

Comment

It has been nearly 20 days since the above review was written, and most of the issues raised still appear to be unaddressed. The nominator has made hundreds of edits on Wikipedia elsewhere, but has made only a single edit here. Perhaps, given this lack of interest in pursing the nomination, this GA review should be closed. (Note: Borders is indeed dead.) BlueMoonset (talk) 18:16, 24 July 2013 (UTC)

I have closed it. SL93 (talk) 06:03, 4 August 2013 (UTC)
I will work on some of the issues raised above. I didn't request the review but I appreciate the feedback. I realize the GA review is closed. GA stands for Good Article, right? --Vampyrecat (talk) 20:01, 10 September 2013 (UTC)
