Improving this article[edit]

In response to the deletion proposal for this article, I've made a number of what I hope are improvements. I've added references, expanded a number of sections, renamed sections, and done quite a lot of copy editing. Of course there is still more work that could be done.

I would like to encourage discussion on this talk page about what other improvements should be made.
I'd also like to ask if anyone would object to renaming the article to something like "Role of the media during the 2011 Libyan civil war" or if you have other suggestions for a new title?

Possible new names for the article[edit]

Suggestions from the deletion discussion:

"The role of the media during the 2011 Libyan civil war";
"Censorship in Libya during the 2011 civil war";
"Censorship of the media during the 2011 Libyan civil war";
"Censorship during the 2011 Libyan civil war";
"Censorship in Libya under Muammar Gaddafi", named to match History of Libya under Muammar Gaddafi, would require expanding the current article to cover the entire period of his rule.

Or we could keep the current name,

"Free speech in the media during the 2011 Libyan civil war"

Or accept a better suggestion that has yet to be made.

I'm a bit confused. Do we want to describe the role of Libyan media, or provide a general overview of the international media reaction? Is there any room for Pro-Gadaffi media reports (pravda.ru, Press TV etc.)? A part of the world (Russia, Iraq, China, India, some states of the Sub-Saharan Africa) criticize the international intervention in Libya. The role of the media during the 2011 Libyan civil war and Censorship in Libya during the 2011 civil war are different topics. I would prefer the current title or No. 1 from your list, but I'm not entirely sure what is the focus of this article. --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 17:16, 24 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oops, my bad, I missed this: "...describes the ability of domestic and international media to report news inside Libya free from interference and censorship during the civil war."
