Settlements, sources[edit]

JimmyJ, I mostly mirrored the changes that I made to Gilo in that I used a neutral formulation on the settlement/neighbourhood issue (what is versus other POVs), and removed the rest of that discussion. Terrorism[edit]

Can we please remove the "Terrorism" section to a more appropriate location (ie one of the listings of attacks)? While reference could be made to the fact that there have been attacks, the article should not spend that much time discussing what they were. TewfikTalk 21:46, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Tewfik that this is a major problem in all geographic places (in Israel...) when you describe a city or a place and then there's a big section about terrorism. The problem is I don't see where it can be moved except to an article named "French hill terorrism" or the like. If that is approved, then it can be done with a link to a main article. From my experience in wikipedia - no. Massacres is the usual term used - whether in acts by irgun and others like Deir Yassen massacre, other acts like Cave of the patriachs massacre etc, while "terrorism" is part of WP:WTA and therefore I didn't use in a name of an article, which is most visible in the sense of how POV it is. Using it in article itself can be disputed and questioned depended on context and references etc but name is more problematic. Amoruso 12:49, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

War crime[edit]

Having the lead of every article of this type refer to an "EU war crime" strikes me as a POV problem of well-poisoning. Reference to this in the article is, of course, appropriate, but it is not the core issue for which each neighborhood is known. -- Avi (talk) 22:13, 30 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Wikipedia is a collaborative effort, which means you're not a gatekeeper of information for any article, but are obliged to discuss the issues with other editors. Many settlement pages in fact already have that kind of information in the lead, and properly so: for the majority of readers, that's the single most important piece of information concerning the topic: the very existence of French Hill is wrong, according to principles agreed in the wake of the Second World War. WP:lead (which I assume you read) specifically states that any significant controversies should be mentioned in the lead. To the contrary, not mentioning the "issue" with the Geneva Convention in the lead is a serious POV problem. --Dailycare (talk) 22:27, 30 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

EU on French Hill[edit]

We cite EU Report in the lede. However per secondary source, it does not represent EU consensus, EU foreign ministers subsequently adopted a new statement: The new resolution calls for the urgent resumption of peace negotiations, but omitted some controversial language on the status of East Jerusalem that was part of an earlier draft prepared by the Swedish EU Presidency. I'm not sure I follow your argument. That the EU chose not to re-iterate the point in a subsequent statement doesn't mean the point in the previous statement would be retracted. The Behr source doesn't mention French Hill. --Dailycare (talk) 19:18, 17 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Correct Etimology[edit]

The name was not given in honor of Field Marshal, John French, 1st Earl of Ypres because he was never in this part of the world but the "legend" is about Colonel John French, another British officer that is buried in a British WWI cemetery close by. I couldnt find good external sources except http://jerusalem.com/articles/travel/the_french_hill_neighborhood-a5240 which is a commercial site... The other version is that a certain Captain Douglas French was ordered to take the area from the Ottomans...
