Steampunk films[edit]

From this article's history I see that it has twice been removed from the Category:Steampunk films by RepublicanJacobite. It certainly belongs to this category, so it would be interesting hearing RepublicanJacobite's objections. Tekwani (talk) 10:59, 6 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Steampunk is a word backformed from cyberpunk because the genre was started in the 1980s by cyberpunk authors like William Gibson. The setting is the 19th century, the tech is steam based but most importantly the perspective is retro-, i.e. written long after the 19th century. Verne is a 19th century author, he never knew what steampunk was. He wrote science fiction, period. A film based on his novel is not 'steampunk'.
