Can someone please add information about the geography and economy for this article? thanx. Fuzhou is the capital of Fujian and obviously it is a important economic and cultural centre.--Takamaxa 04:17, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Name[edit]

The name of "Fuzhou" began in the thirteenth year of Tang Dynasty (725 years). Since there is a mountain in the northwest of the city called Fu Mountain, the former Minzhou Dudu Government was renamed Fuzhou Dudu Government. However, the exact location of Fushan in the Tang Dynasty is still inconclusive. The Fuzhou Fuzhi, which was engraved during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, pointed out that Dongfeng Mountain’s old name was FuMountain. But because Dong Feng Mountain’s location was not in the northwest of Fuzhou City, some people thought that Fushan was the Lianhua mountain (also known as Yongfu Mountain) in the northwest of Fuzhou, others believe that Fushan may be Baofu Mountain in the western suburbs of Fuzhou. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jl057 (talkcontribs) 14:29, 1 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Only one Mandarin romanisation is needed in the infobox - the others are detailed in the article. Surely a romanisation based on Putonghua and another in Hok-ciu (Eastern Min) is best. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.111.171.180 (talk) 02:21, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Japanese occupation[edit]

Although Fuzhou was attacked by the Japanese in 1937 it was not occupied for long, and by 1941 was entirely free of enemy occupiers, such that a fully-functional British consulate was operating - it was the only former treaty port not occupied by Japan during most of the Sino-Japanese war. The relevant section needs to be amended. Simonwinchester 13:11, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I partly agree. But you'd better offer us your reference before the amendment. --GnuDoyng 01:25, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The part of history is long and a little digressive[edit]

The paragraph concerning Hualin Temple seems trivial and should be discussed in a separate article denominated "Hualin Temple", so do the paragraphs on Lin Zexu and the city walls. The article should be concise and emphasize on the most important historical events.

There are also several flaws in the paragraphs and lacks of references. For example, Hualin Temple is not the oldest existing wooden structure in China, but the oldest in South China.

Anyone objects? If not, I will start abridging. Luhungnguong 10:43, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pinpoint Map[edit]

Does anyone know how to fix the pinpoint map that shows the location of Fuzhou? The coordinates listed next to it are correct, but the map shows the city being well inland, when it should be on the coast. Kenner116 (talk) 20:26, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to recommend changing the below ...

Gender roles[edit]

Fuzhou males are perceived in the rest of Fujian province as being rather subservient in sex-relations, the stereotypical image being that of a husband following his wife around a shopping area, holding many bags. This has led to the Fujianese maxim (or cultural rule of thumb) "Don't marry a Fuzhou woman".[1] Whatever the truth of these perceptions, Fuzhou males do seem rather more given than men in other cities to compensatory counter-type behaviour towards female strangers, such as cutting queues, stealing taxis and even flashing, for which the local term is liuniaoxia (遛鸟侠, from liuniao, to take the (pet) bird out for a stroll (ie to the park, as done by retirees all over China) + xia, action hero).[2]

Liuniaoxia?? I've never heard of this term before. --GnuDoyng (talk) 02:28, 30 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That whole section should probably be deleted. Looks more like a joke to me and the supposed 'references' are ambiguous.--198.103.184.76 (talk) 20:37, 4 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Liuniaoxia is a mandarin word used in North China, NOT a "local term" at all. This is such a stupid topic that we should probably delete. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Luhungnguong (talkcontribs) 22:52, 22 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Coordinate error[edit]

{{geodata-check}} The coordinates need a fix --LLTimes (talk) 17:32, 10 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

In what respect? They look OK to me. Deor (talk) 14:29, 11 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It is OK for me as well:) Wo.luren (talk) 16:10, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well thats weird~.. it didn't came out so well on here [1] which is why random IPs are trying to remove the coordinate sections (ie, [2] and [3]. I guess there's something wrong with the map itself, instead of the coordinate points. Anyway thanks for answering the call :) --LLTimes (talk) 17:56, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What is missing from the recently created city timeline article? Please add relevant content. Contributions welcome. Thank you. -- M2545 (talk) 15:30, 19 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
