Untitled[edit]

The page current states (of ADSL2+) : "This extends the capability of basic ADSL by doubling the number of downstream bits."

ADSL is 8Mb/s. Double this is 16Mb/s, but ADSL2+ is 24Mb/s

Now, ADSL2 is 12Mb/s, double this and you get 24Mb/s which is ADSL2+

Should the above quote actually read "extends the capability of basic *ADSL2*..."?

The page currently states (of PowerTel ADSL2+ Annex M coverage):

"Australian wholesale business grade ISP Powertel (http://www.powertel.com.au/) established a relationship with iiNet (http://www.iinet.net.au) and now offers SHDSL services up to 2M/2Mbps using Annex M via iiNet DSLAMs."

I believe this is not the case, and in any case is not substantiated with a quote. Additionally, SHDSL is a very different service to ADSL2+ Annex M. Furthermore, PowerTel had these facilities in place before their relationship with iiNet; I believe that their SHDSL services are provisioned over their own equipment. Accordingly, I have deleted this statement.

This quote:

is ambiguous and confusing. Does it half the download bandwidth, or reduce it by 1.9Mbit/s, or what? 203.206.137.129 (talk) —Preceding undated comment was added at 04:31, 16 December 2008 (UTC).[reply]

It borrows part of the frequency spectrum that would have been used for downstream for the upstream. Assuming all else is equal you would expect the downstream to be reduced by the same amount as the upstream is boosted eg if upstream goes up by 1mbit then downstream will go down by 1mbit. However for various reasons the loss in downstream may be different to the gain in upstream (often lower). Reality does not agree with promise[edit]

Actual experience disagrees with proposed results. Annex M was supposed to change my 18/1 to 16.5/2.5 according to the official info.
