Removal?

Anyway to remove this font? I didn't like how it displayed East Asian characters, so I tried deleting it when I removed it it caused a glitch and in the font section it still displays even though I removed it and now turned my East Asian fonts into squares! Can you make a simpler test case, please?

Okay, strictly speaking, Unifont ist a "dual-space" font, because all "full-width" Unicode characters uses 16 pixels width, all "narrow" characters uses 8 pixels. I don't know, whether the decision for 8 or 16 pixels characters corresponds completely with the Unicode character property "half width"/"full width" for each character.

Moreover: It depends on your text editor/terminal whether it displays all "full width" characters in a double-width character cell. --RokerHRO (talk) 11:10, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

Take a close look at the number "1" and the lower-case "i" here:

Now compare the number "1" and the lower-case "i" on these:

Looking at other letters,such as capital "E", lead to the opposite conclusion.

It appears that when we are talking about low-resolution bitmap fonts, the concepts of serif and sans-serif don't apply. The designer in this case added serifs to some character an omitted them from others as needed to make the font readable. --Guy Macon (talk) 18:57, 27 October 2016 (UTC)

Output doesn't seem to match infobox image

Hello, WhoAteMyButter. I was having issues with this font. I wanted something computer-like, specifically I wanted the zero crossed by a forward slash, as depicted in the infobox. When I tested it in my sandbox, the text returned didn't look at all like that shown in the infobox: Unifont sample v13.0.06.png.

You need to have a font installed locally for your browser to use it. Anyone who doesn't have the font will instead see the website/browser's default font. Wiki content should not use specific fonts but should instead hint to the browser what kind of text it is using things like code tags or lang tags. If you just want to change the font for yourself, use the font-family declaration in your user CSS. Opencooper (talk) 19:12, 28 July 2021 (UTC)

Thank you; when I finally saw the list, that was the impression I got. I had incorrectly assumed the font in this article as a Wiki font, and thus could be made to display in browsers (unless the user had ticked the option to override a website's font). However, could you explain what you mean by "hint" with code or lang tags. Websites can indicate which fonts they prefer, and this is possible to do using the span code you used (or usually in the CSS). The level of control you want might be possible on a website where you can serve the fonts yourself, but as you saw, there aren't any specific font Wikipedia uses. Guessing what fonts users might have is also not ideal. Instead, we can tell the browser what kind of content something is and it can pick the font itself. If something is wrapped in a <code> code tag, the browser will choose a monospaced font. If text is marked as Japanese-language (e.g. <span lang="ja"> or using {{lang}}), the browser will know to choose a Japanese font. Opencooper (talk)

Okay. I followed the article back to the webpage, and installed the font. It is displaying on my computer now, but not displayed when used with other tags, such as <pre>, <code>, nor <syntaxhighlight>. If I want to display it in a box, I'd have to use other means. As far as I know, Unifont doesn't have a valid language code for {{lang}} (see Template:Citation Style documentation/language/doc). FYI: If you want it to display in pre-formatted tags, you have to change the font settings in the browser. I know Firefox has it under "Monospaced" option. WhoAteMyButter (📨_talk│📝^contribs) 21:30, 28 July 2021 (UTC)
