politics[edit]

thought the section on Kapler running for Congress in the 5th district looked a bit suspect. Checked CNN's 2006 election coverage, and there is no mention of any Gabe Kapler (or a Green Party candidate in any 06 MA congressional election) Think deleting this is the right call. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Spurgistan (talkcontribs) 14:54, 27 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

other religions[edit]

should we add sections on other religions like maybe david eckstein's roman catholic heritage and have a whole section on how he has a cross on his neck and a cross tattoo? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.79.78.192 (talk) 19:15, 25 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rating[edit]

I have rated this article as start for WikiProject Biography. It needs to cite sources and a photo for improvement. GDon4t0 17:43, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hebrew Hammer[edit]

I saw this mentioned after googling it, but many of the sites are not reliable per wp:rs and wp:v. I will try to find one. --Tom 14:48, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cobb anti-semitic[edit]

If there is a supportable reference to Cobb having helped Jewish Hank Greenberg, by all means include the reference. But the reference to Cobb being an anti-semite, with proper citation, should be reinserted as well. --Epeefleche 17:39, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

But this is an encyclopedia for important events. A guy wearing a jersey in one game of a guy who happens to be anti-semitic is not notable. Its inclusion just doesn't make sense to me.--Phil5329 (talk) 15:54, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rating[edit]

Raised to B, but give full details of references - publication, article name, author name, publication date, etc. See WP:CITE. --AnonEMouse (squeak) 20:14, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cobb's close relationship to Hank Greenberg was described in depth in Greenberg's autobiography when Cobb was a Tiger coach. Cobb told Greenberg to psyche himself up by knowing that the pitcher's were going to have to face the "Great Hank Greenberg" and even though this didn't always work - like with Bob Feller- Hank wrote how it gave him confidence. If you were even superficialy cognizant of Greenberg's carear you would know that Hank was not a turn the other cheek guy, and had numerous physical confrontations regarding anti-semetic slurs during and after his playing days. He also stated that every home run he hit was a response to Hitler It makes no sense that he would write as positively of Cobb as he did if he even knew Cobb was an ani- semite.I have heard sport writers refer to Cobb as an anti-semite without any concrete example, as did Wiki's Gabe Kapler biographer. Sure, Cobb was a mean, propably disturbed individual, and a vicious raciast to boot, but I have never read one instance that he showed anti semetism during his long baseball carear.

Ryan Braun[edit]

It states that Braun is Jewish. Not really. Comes from a mixed home, father Jewish, and he was not raised as a Jew. Therefore, changed the this section.Mwinog2777 (talk) 17:18, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

He is Jewish per Reform Judaism. Not under Orthodox -- but then again, he is not an Orthodox Jew.
His father is Jewish, and he is therefore considered Jewish under Reform Judaism, and is also listed as such by various lists.[1] In addition, when asked about his reaction to being Jewish, Braun said "It's something that draws a lot of interest and something I take pride in."[1]--Ethelh (talk) 21:01, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Your argument falls into the "most specious" category. Reform Judaism will recognize someone as Jewish with a Jewish father IF he is raised as a Jew. NOT the case here. He was not raised as a Jew. Please, let's settle this. As far as taking pride in his Jewish ancestry, this does not make him Jewish. Neither does being on lists make him Jewish. Pride and lists a Jew do not make. Without getting crazy over this, please accept my latest revision. And, so what? What does Ryan Braun have to do with a web page on Gabe Kapler? Thank you so much.Mwinog2777 (talk) 16:37, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agree w/Span[edit]

I agree with Span's restoration of the deletion of one sentence deleted here. For the reason Span stated. If someone thinks those few words are too close to the original, they can always seek to improve the project by a re-wording; but the heavy-handed deletion seems both inappropriate and not helpful to the project. --Epeefleche (talk) 02:30, 30 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Lede[edit]

According to wp:lede, "The lead ... serves as an introduction to the article and a summary of its most important contents. .. The lead should stand on its own as a concise overview of the article's topic. It should identify the topic, establish context, explain why the topic is notable, and summarize the most important points.. Like in the body of the article itself, the emphasis given to material in the lead should roughly reflect its importance to the topic, according to reliable, published sources.. As a general rule of thumb, a lead section should contain no more than four well-composed paragraphs..". Kapler's minor league highest-level accomplishments (leading leagues in various categories, All Star, league MVP!!!, leading the minors in RBIs, team minor league player of the year) are part of that appropriate text to summarize, and therefore appropriate for the lede. If you disagree, let's bring in some baseball admins to discuss. This is a peculiar deletion. --2604:2000:E010:1100:408D:2A74:9DB4:347 (talk) 22:33, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Main photo[edit]

The photo that I attached is an upgrade. The current picture of Kapler is more than 10 years old compared to a picture that is a year old. @user:Yankees10.Pennsylvania2 (talk) 05:17, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The new pic doesn't show his face clearly. Just because it's newer doesn't mean its better.-- Yankees10 05:20, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Kapler the one democrat[edit]

The source for the Kapler being the one Democrat on a team of 24 other Republican Red Sox no longer functions. Dyoustra (talk) 05:22, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
