Danube Swabians[edit]

  • Danube Swabians

The citizens of Gakovo during and after WWII were not Germans. During WWII they were Hungarians (from April 1941 util 1944.) When military rule followed the defeat of the occupying forces, they reverted to citizens of Yugoslavia. Calling them Germans is an outrageous example of racism. They were not even ethnic Germans, although the Nazis in the Volksdeutsche Mittelstelle tried to make them so with bribes and later with military force. They called themselves Shwoveh, so this would perhaps be acceptable, and were called by the Serbians Podunavske Svabe, and by the Hungarians Svabe; but all of these were racist terms and have no place in Wikipedia. . Although the conquering Communists refered to them as Nemci, or Germans, this too is clearly a racist appellation since they acted out of racism and revenge. It would be best to refer to them as citizens who were ethnically clansed because of differences in language, religion, and culture.

Until this is straightened out, a notice of conflict should be placed on this article. Imersion (talk) 16:53, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
