If he's dead…[edit]

Can someone explain this phrase?

…but the Rouran khaghan was soon killed by the Gaoche, and he had to submit to Gaoche overlordship…

If he was dead, how did he submit to Gaoche overlordship? Something's off here and it needs someone who knows the history to fix it. -Fenevad (talk) 03:04, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The "he" refers to Qu Jia. Hzh (talk) 04:08, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yuan Dynasty not yet declared in 1209[edit]

Surely in 1209 Gaochang fell under the Mongol Empire, not the Yuan Dynasty, which was declared in 1271. Sometimes people from China use the terms interchangeably, but this is not done in English. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.189.210.30 (talk) 19:48, 14 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's Astonishing how much of the history that has been revised by the Chinese communists is present in this article....If the so called 'Han' Chinese played such a major part in the history of goacheng then where is the evidence, the hard evidence for which most of the historical theories are based on, as far as I am aware the majority of manuscripts, paintings and ruins bear no similarity with the Han chinese culture...Its just absurd how these people are manipulating the history in order to serve their on purpose on the political stage... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 143.167.192.164 (talk) 03:08, 30 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Anyone can edit this page, if you feel the history is wrong or biased, then by all means modify the content. Citations however are necessary. You are however wrong about the manuscripts and paintings of the place - take a look at the nearby Astana Tombs which contains a lot of Chinese graves and where many Chinese paintings and manuscripts were found. a different spelling, Gaocheng[edit]

I just ran across the name 'Gaocheng' (referring to Gaochang ruins) in Paul Theroux's travel writings ("To The Ends of The Earth" compilation), used several times so i dont think its just a typo. Not sure if this is an alternate spelling or what. I've added a disambig at the other article (Gaocheng), fwiw. By the way, Theroux also uses the spelling 'Turfan' for Turpan (and yes I'm familiar with the concept of different spellings due to transliteration). Sources for Qu (Ch'u) family being of Chinese origin[edit]

The Qu family ruling Gaochang were of Chinese origin, but were allied to the Turkic Khanates and intermarried with the Turkic ruling families. Qu Boya (Ch'ü Boya)'s grandmother was Turkic.
