benemerenti award[edit]

in 3rd paragraph, it says  : and also was awarded the Benemerenti medal by Pope Benedict XVI. But on going to that link, it has no listing for Naftalis as a recipient ; and so there is error in list or in saying Naftalis was awarded this medal. Revisions[edit]

I work for Rubenstein and on behalf of Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel LLP and Gary Naftalis, I'm proposing the following revisions to this article.

Expand birth year in the lead sentence to: November 23, 1941[1] [2]

Add text in italics to the first sentence in the second paragraph of the Career section: In 2006 and in 2013,[3] Naftalis was named one of the 100 most influential lawyers in America by the National Law Journal.

Add citation for Benemerenti medal in Career section: [4]

Add text in italics to the last sentence of the second paragraph in career section: In 2007, Naftalis was named one of the ten leading trial lawyers in the United States by Legal 500.

Updating Tense in Selected Representations[edit]

I work for Rubenstein and on behalf of Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel LLP and Gary Naftalis, I'm proposing the following revisions to this article.

The second paragraph in the Selected representations section contains language that implies Naftalis still works with those clients. Would like to make the revisions in italics in order to indicate past work:

Naftalis successfully represented Kenneth Langone in the litigation brought by the New York State Attorney General relating to the compensation of New York Stock Exchange Chairman Richard Grasso. He also represented Cosmo Corigliano...

Selected representations[edit]

I'd like to add the following to the Selected representations section. Please note my previous COI disclosure.

Naftalis represented the city of New York in the inquiry by the New York County District Attorney relating to the fire at the Deutsche Bank building at the World Trade Center, in which no charges were brought against the city or any of its agencies or its officials.[1]
Naftalis defended Sirius XM Radio in a breach of contract action by Howard Stern seeking $330 million in damages and secured summary judgment in favor of Sirius dismissing the case.[2]
He represented Rajat Gupta, former director of Goldman Sachs, and the New York Times profiled him at the onset of that case, describing Naftalis as "Columbo with a Law Degree".[3]

  1. Please provide dates in the text of your proposal for the selected representations.
  2. The claim of representation of Rajat Gupta does not indicate the nature of "that case".

Please advise.

Revised selected representations[edit]

I'd like to add the following revised text, answering questions posed in the July 3rd reply above, to the Selected representations section. Please note my previous COI disclosure.

Naftalis represented the city of New York in the inquiry by the New York County District Attorney relating to the 2007 fire at the Deutsche Bank building at the World Trade Center, in which no charges were brought against the city or any of its agencies or its officials.[1]
Naftalis defended Sirius XM Radio in a breach of contract action by Howard Stern seeking $330 million in damages and secured summary judgment in 2013 in favor of Sirius dismissing the case.[2]

Reply 6-AUG-2019[edit]

  Clarification requested

  1. Thank you for providing the dates, it's much appreciated.
  2. With respect to the claim regarding the subject's representation of the city of New York, I think it's enough to state that the city hired Naftali — as this is all that is stated in the reference. The additional claim about no charges being brought is, of course, outside the purview of the NYTimes piece and therefore cannot be spoken to without additional references.
  3. The claim regarding Sirius needs to be modified. The proposed claim states that it was "Sirius dismissing the case", however, appellant's (or in this case, the defendant) do not dismiss cases as it were. They can petition for a judge to dismiss a case, but describing Sirius in this way is not correct; indeed, the source states "a New York County Supreme Court judge dismissed the suit with prejudice", a decision which was then later affirmed by a five-judge panel of the Appellate Division.
  4. The claim involving Gupta includes a description of the subject made by the author of the Times piece which does not appear to have been made directly in relation to the Gupta case. If anything, the claim should only state that the subject "represented Gupta, the former director of Goldman Sachs and Procter & Gamble who was accused of leaking company secrets to a billionaire hedge fund manager" as this is the information that the article relays with respect to Gupta.
  5. Please feel free to redraft these proposals and submit them at your earliest convenience.

Re-revised selected representations[edit]

I'd like to add the following revised text, incorporating feedback from the August 6 reply above, to the Selected representations section. Please note my previous COI disclosure.

Naftalis represented the city of New York in the inquiry by the New York County District Attorney relating to the 2007 fire at the Deutsche Bank building at the World Trade Center,[1] in which no charges were brought against the city or any of its agencies or its officials.[2]
Naftalis defended Sirius XM Radio in a breach of contract action by Howard Stern seeking $330 million in damages and secured a judgment in 2013 in which a judge dismissed the case against Sirius.[3]
He represented Rajat Gupta, former director of Goldman Sachs and Procter & Gamble, who was accused of leaking company secrets to a billionaire hedge fund manager.[4]

  1. Green tickY The claim involving the subject's representation of NYC was added. The outcome of that case was not added, as it's not germane to this article.
  2. Red XN The claim regarding Sirius was not added, because the claim is poorly worded (i.e., a breach of contract action by Howard Stern seeking $330 million in damages and secured [who?] a judgment in 2013 in which a judge dismissed the case[how?] against Sirius.[a]
  3. Green tickY The claim regarding Gupta was added.

Notes

  1. ^ An attorney who "secures a judgement" in which a judge dismisses a case can be said to have "secured a dismissal" rather than a "judgement".

Personal life[edit]

I'd like to revise the Personal life section to the below text. Some of this content is already on the page. Please note my previous COI disclosure.

He is married to Donna (née Arditi) Naftalis, an independent learning specialist in New York. Their son, Benjamin Andrew Naftalis, was an assistant United States attorney for the Southern District of New York, specializing in the prosecution of international narcotics and narco-terrorism crimes.[1] He is now a partner at Latham & Watkins LLP. Their son Joshua Naftalis is an assistant United States attorney for the Southern District of New York.[2]

Notes

  1. ^ A Wikilink will exist if the children are independently notable in Wikipedia, which is to say that they have their own pages in Wikipedia. Otherwise, children (even adult children) are not normally mentioned by name in a parent's article.
@Spintendo: Understood on independent notability. However, Benjamin Andrew Naftalis is already mentioned on the page and it's mentioned he is an assistant United States attorney for the Southern District of New York, a position he no longer holds. I believe it would make sense to ensure the existing information on the page is current and truthful. NinaSpezz (talk) 13:28, 13 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Personal life - family[edit]

The following sentence, currently in the Personal life section is misleading as Naftalis has two sons - Benjamin Andrew Naftalis is a former assistant US attorney for the South Disctrict of New York and Joshua Naftalis. Joshua Naftalis is an assistant US attorney for the Southern District of New York. This is clarified in this Law360 article,[1] the full text of which can be viewed here [1]. Joshua Naftalis' position is also mentioned in this NY Times wedding announcement.[2]

Their son is a former assistant US attorney for the Southern District of New York.

I worded the addition specifically to account for the fact that they may have additional children. The claim only specifies the former position of one son, as that was the information given. If they have other children, please propose the verbatim text which would take this into account and add it here to the talk page. This article is not the place to be discussing their positions, former or otherwise. Regards,  Spintendo  17:49, 13 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Personal life - number of children[edit]

The Personal life section currently states Naftalis has two children. He has four children. [1]
