Population[edit]

I removed the population total from the infobox (54,915) as being hideously misleading. The website from which it was taken, https://www.point2homes.com/US/Neighborhood/CA/Central-Coast/Gaviota-Demographics.html, gives their methodology: they include all of zip code 93117, which includes multiple other census-designated places (e.g. Isla Vista) as well as an incorporated city (Goleta). I don't think we should be double-counting all these people.

Gaviota is not a town. No one lives there. The Caltrans sign gives "94" as the population, and that's reasonable: those are the residents at local ranches, at least at the time they made the sign. The freeway exit to "Gaviota" takes you to the former marine terminal on one side, and the PXP oil/gas facility on the other. The whole area in better known as the Gaviota Coast, and is one of the biggest undeveloped areas on all the southern-central California coast. Antandrus (talk) 01:11, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I always thought the population was odd. "Gaviota is not a town. No one lives there." Right. The pit stop for travelers is long gone with just a foundation behind a gate. Cheers, Adflatusstalk 02:23, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
