Appearance in Jaws[edit]

I note that User:Delicious carbuncle has twice removed the fact that the light appeared briefly in Jaws. I completely agree that, for a variety of reasons, YouTube is not a valid citation for anything. However, I see no reason not to cite the movie itself -- we cite books all the time, including many that are rare or obscure. I'll wager that the Jaws DVD or tape appears on more bookshelves than 95% of the references we regularly use. A DVD is certainly a more permanent citation than most web sites. And, of course, if the Wiki-powers-that-be did not intend us to cite movies, then why do we have the template {{cite video}}?

I also note that articles on several other lights, The Graves Light for example, cite their appearance in films without a specific reference. In such cases, I think there is a legitimate implicit reference to the movie itself. Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talkcontribs) 15:13, 6 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ebyabe: thank you for taking an interest in the Gay Head Lighthouse. However, I am bewildered as to your recent edits and reversions. FYI: I saved the Gay Head Lighthouse in the 1980s by giving testimony before Congressional committees and being successful, with the backing of Senator Ted Kennedy and Congressman Gerry Studds, in having the Gay Head Light and two other Vineyard lighthouses transferred to my non-profit, tax-exempt organization via a 35-year lease. I was also on the board of the MV Museum for 7-years. On similar note, I wrote the only book ever published about the Gay Head Lighthouse - "Gay Head Lighthouse, the First Light on Martha's Vineyard, published by The History Press. In other words, I've been involved in managing and saving the Gay Head Lighthouse for over 35-years. Therefore, I am bewildered as to your becoming an instant expert about the GHL and reverting my contributions based on your opinions that lack scholarly research or experience on the subject. The reversions you made delete the corrections I made to more accurately depict the GHL's history and current status. In other words, you are causing harm to the conveyance of correct information to people who seek accurate and current information. Please enlighten me as to how we may move forward with my again including the corrected and updated information relative to the Gay Head Lighthouse. What specific edits do you consider questionable? Also, your personal involvement in this may be considered a conflict of interest according to Wikipedia's standards. --Ebyabe talk - Repel All Boarders ‖ 14:20, 12 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
