Removed Production Process Line[edit]

Removed the first line in Production Process because it was taken directly from the company's website, and reads like an advertisement for the business.

"While diamond-growing technology has been around for over five decades, gem-quality results have only been achievable for a few years.[when?]"

According to GIA - Gemological Institute of America (an independent diamond grading lab and a well-known industry knowledge house): Colorless lab-made diamonds are available in the jewelry market in commercial quantities since mid-2010s. Both HPHT and CVD continue to be popular methods of laboratory-grown diamond production

Contradictory[edit]

This claims the company was disbanded in 2013. It also contains a link claiming the company was rebranded in 2014, which seems to contradict this.

Following the links indicates there seems to be two differently owned companies with this name. At this point I give up, but the article still needs fixing. Ken Arromdee (talk) 03:42, 16 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Mehta discussion[edit]

Are Suraj Mehta and Jatin Mehta two different people, or two ways of referring to the same person? (I notice that one of the sources says that Jatin Mehta co-owned a company called "Su-Raj Diamonds and Jewelry USA", the name of which is very similar to "Suraj", which is the name ascribed to the company founder/promoter in another source. —BarrelProof (talk) 04:55, 2 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Article transformation[edit]

From the time of the creation of this article in early 2005 until around the end of 2019, this article was about a company called Gemesis that was a manufacturer (not a reseller, but a producer) of lab-grown diamonds. The company was reported to be the world's largest such producer and to have been founded in 1996. The company got into some controversy around 2012 that seemed to involve some questionable actions by the company or some people associated with it, and the management was changed, but the company proceeded to continue to make diamonds, including a record-breaking one made in July 2014, and the company was renamed. Here is a link to that article as of 3 October 2019. All of this was reasonably well verified with cited sources.

There was some questionable editing while the article evolved. In 2017 the page was protected for a while.

Then in late 2019, two single-purpose accounts edited the article – first one of them and then the other transformed the article. Now, all the information about the existence of the company from 1996 to April 2013 has basically disappeared. So has all mention of the fact that the subject of the article was a company that was the largest manufacturer (not seller as a retailer or wholesale trader) of diamonds. So has all mention of the questionable activities around 2012 and subsequent investigations. The "2012 controversy" section is gone. As of January 2021, the article (permalink here) says it is about a company founded in April 2013. The term "Gemesis" wasn't even in boldface font anymore until a few minutes ago when I restored that fragmentary evidence of the original topic.

The Gemesis diamond producing company was notable. See this article of 2004 and this article of 2007, for example. That company was the subject of the Wikipedia article. Now the article seems to say it is about a different company, or at least the pre-2020 information has mostly been removed. The interesting information that made the diamond-making company notable is gone. I believe we never really agreed to write an article about a different company, and we never agreed to delete the article about the diamond-producing company of 1996–2014.

I don't really know whether the company that is now the subject of the Wikipedia article is a renamed and reorganized continuation of the prior company or is a new one (or is legally new but basically a continuation in the sense of transferred ownership of assets and intellectual property and perhaps substantial similarity of lower-level personnel, which is what I suspect). But I think the article should be about the company that existed before 2014. That is obviously what the article was previously about, because the article has existed since 2005.

If the company is no longer in existence and all articles are extracted from Wayback, what and how can we say that information is correct? There's no published and 'LIVE' information on the company and yet the article here insists on showcasing Wayback articles which are no where on the internet. I mean it's a little weird. Pure Grown Diamonds → Gemesis – As outlined a few days ago on the Talk page, this was originally an article about Gemesis, a highly notable diamond-producing company founded in 1996. The article was created in 2005. Something confusing happened in about 2012–2014 and the company was purchased and restructured or dissolved. The article was rewritten by some SPA editors in 2019 to change the subject of the article to be about what they say is a different company founded in 2013 from the ashes of that original company. The new company is called Pure Grown Diamonds, and it is a diamond reseller, not a diamond maker, and they rewrote the article to be about this different company. The SPA editors removed nearly all of the information about the company that the article was originally about, including changing the company founding date from 1996 to 2013 (more than seven years after the article was created). The original company was very notable as a diamond-making company, which was a pioneer in the field and was the world's largest maker of gem-quality diamonds. Gemesis produced record-breaking gem-quality diamonds of unprecedented size. The new company is not as notable and seems to be just a web-based reseller. The article was created long before the new company existed, so it should be about the original company. The information about the company that existed before 2013 should not have been removed – e.g., per WP:DEFUNCTS. If Pure Grown Diamonds is a different company, then it should not be the subject of this article – or at least it should not be the primary subject of this article. —⁠ ⁠BarrelProof (talk) 15:40, 18 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support fixing this, either by moving back and reverting to an old version, or some other way of splitting into articles on the 2 companies.
