Cleanup Tags[edit]

A registered user put 3 different cleanup tags on, all at the same time, and without explanation: {{POV check}}, {{cleanup-tone}}, and {{cleanup-verify}}. An anon removed them all, again without explanation. I've restored a single generic {{cleanup}} tag; the article really does need work. There are no sources and the style is poor.

-- Couldn't find anything non-factual with this entry. Seems to be to a baseball war going on here between a Texas Rangers fan and other editors atacking without being able to disprove any of the content. Seems well researched. I checked a few items and they were good.

I wrote it and resent your attacks![edit]

I'm writing a book on the Texas Rangers and Mr. Petralli and find this information invaluable. Many baseball fans have asked me to post this information on this wikipedia entry. I highly resent the attacks on my work. I posted a vast majority of the info on this page and some other Texas Ranger and baseball fans have added to it. We need to make sure this article stays in its current form. Perhaps some basic edits, but it truly is a great piece of research and writing. I have devoted a great deal of time to this entry on Mr. Petralli. One other item to note, all of the facts on this page come from the 1987 and 1989 Texas Ranger media guides, a book written by Rangers beat writer Phil Rogers called "The Impossible Takes A Little Longer" that was published in 1990, and from interviews with Mr. Petralli. Former announcer Norm Hitzges likes the entry as well. - Keith Creel 66.90.154.194

You left an angry message on my talk page; I guess that means that this comment is directed to me as well. Sorry if you're offended. If you don't want your writing to be edited mercilessly or redistributed by others, do not submit it.
In point of fact I replaced 3 cleanup tags with just 1; so you see, I'm moderate. Since that time you've taken appropriate action, adding some references and removing the cleanup tag. This is exactly as it should be; this is how wikis work. You're doing fine.
I would like to suggest that you consider registering on Wikipedia before you continue to edit. Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages. Typing four tildes after your comment ( ~~~~ ) will insert a signature showing your username and a date/time stamp, which makes it clear who said what, and when. Thank you. There is a lot that is wrong with this article. It is full of images that don't contribute any valuable information and is full of trivia that is impossible to verify and non-encyclopedic. Why are you messing with the Geno Petralli page? What type of "baseball fan" are you? Do you really think you are helping anything by taking down hard found photos? Do you really think Petralli's wiki entry should be up the high standards of Einstein's or Jean Chretin? Seriously, get a life and leave Geno alone. - Jim Kern

Calm down, but clean this article up[edit]

No Guru is right: This article is ridiculous. This is an encyclopedia, not a fan site. I'm going to revert it, and then I'm going to clean out some of the trivia and fan-style commentary. I'm glad you and NoLarryGura have decided to save the world of a Geno Petralli wiki page that isn't up to your high standards. Not real David Brooks[edit]

Do you wish you were the real David Brooks that writes for the NY Times? His paper probably doesn't let him edit people's wiki enteries. Also, isn't all of wiki trivial? One man's trivia in New Hampshire is another man's vital facts somewhere else! - Jim Sundberg

Cleanup 2/15[edit]

This article could still use a lot of work, but I've re-organized it to make the style more encyclopedic and to remove a lot of clearly bogus material. I also deleted images that weren't of Petralli or that had ridiculous text descriptors.|Klaw ¡digame! 23:21, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Stop blocking[edit]

Wiki Dorks, stop blocking this page from legit people that are trying to make changes to it. A simple change of the photo to a 1986 Topps card shouldn't cause you to undo the edit and block the user. Chill out! - DHL

Deletion of The Nolan Ryan Exclusion section[edit]

From Chris Petralli's player page at U of M:

uncle, Geno Petralli, played 12 years in the Majors for the Texas Rangers and Toronto Blue Jays and caught Nolan Ryan's 300th win

Awesome! Good job! I'm giving you two brownie points for that stellar research! Thank God that crazy stuff about the Ryan Exclusion was taken down. I feel better now and will finally be able to sleep at night. I did find some story in the Ft Worth Star-Telegram about how Petralli caught that game because the Rangers weren't able to complete a trade for Lance Parrish before the game started, but I'm not sure we should post it. It was something about how the Angels wanted Jeff Huson and the Rangers wouldn't part with him. Crazy! EdRooney 14:47, 21 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think I'll make some changes to it and put it back in. I found on Retrosheet.org that Mike Stanley was given the first chance to catch the 300th win on July 25, 1990 at Arlington Stadium against the Yankees. Ryan however got a no-decision as he pithced 8 innings and gave up 10 hits, 2 walks, 3 homers, and 7 earned runs. The next time his spot in the rotation can around they used Petralli, but only because Stanley had a pulled hamstring and the Lance Parrish trade before the trading deadline fell through.
