POV[edit]

I placed a POV tag on the article. I've made quite a few edits trying to get this to sound neutral, but more needs to be done. Look at sentences like "As the official Olympic torch made its way around the world prior to the beginning of the 2008 Summer Olympics, the Dream for Darfur team, an organizational campaign to bring mass attention to the conflict in Darfur, began its own symbolic relay." This is essay writing at best; it's not encyclopedic since it is too digressive and does not describe events in factual terms. Drmies (talk) 18:00, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I just removed another purely promotional section from the article:

In order to deepen the anti-genocide movement, GI-Net established the Carl Wilkens Fellowship so that regular citizens of society could be properly educated about genocidal issues and how to confront the challenges. Additionally, GI-Net inspired the formation of another anti-genocide campaign, STAND. It was launched in hopes of inspiring younger generations to promote social justice change.
In order to halt military expansion in Sudan, the Sudan Divestment Task Force and the Conflict Resolution Network implemented divestment practices towards companies whose stock investments support the Sudanese government. Both campaigns have made revolutionary progress in the anti-genocide movement in Darfur.
GI-Net created two innovative tools, 1-800-GENOCIDE and DarfurScores.org, to help constituents lobby their members of congress and to increase transparency between the government and members of society.

No, you re-added a bunch of non-neutral information and then removed the tags. What you're adding isn't neutral content and it wasn't sourced to "several credible journals and books"--most of it was sourced to your organization's own website. I wish to stay well clear of being accused of violating WP:OUTING, but thanks to the internetz is easy to discover your connection to the subject. It seems to me that you should probably not be editing this article, certainly not until you are more familiar with some of the basic concepts here--like maintaining a neutral tone. - I'll outmyself and say I'm with the org that was the result of GI-Net and Save Darfur. Our interest in updating this page was to bring it up to date -- it had no edits of substance since 2007 and was quite dated. Much of the information was indeed sourced to Rebecca Hamilton's book. Hamilton is a journalist at Reuters and a well known expert. I agree that a better job can be done with sources and in cleaning up some of the tone to have it read more factual. But it seems like the arguing should be over the facts and organization of the entry. Eleaver (talk) 20:43, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
