incorrect capitalisation[edit]

I changed the capitalisation of the lemma (and of geographic information system) to correspond to other sciences (and general spelling rules for common/proper nouns). It wouldn't be correct to capitalise "physics" or "theory of relativity" either. BTW, it's confusing for non-experts that according to the name it's a science, but the article calls it a theory. --Espoo 12:59, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Additional information[edit]

Good start. In addition, consider adding link(s) and/or various addedums related to information science (IS) - moreover, research topics w/in IS that the existing entry for Geographic Information Science loosely touches on already; for example:

relevance / precicion vs. recall / information seeking behavior / cognitive modeling of the user / information visualization

Just brainstorming, but those can all be applied to this entry in some meaningful fashion. Thanks, and keep up the good work!

Distinction without a difference[edit]

Answer and proposition. The most commonly and widely accepted term of Geomatics should cover both Geoinformatics and Geocomputation, and probably Geographic information science. A merge of all those articles, which are not very dense anyway, could reasonably be a common ground for the four names. Slight differences could be mentioned in a special paragraphs (I'll think about a version of it). All the folks in these domains are meeting in the same conferences! The fact that -as the above anonymous- GIS are or not involved, doesnt matter to the underlying science and tech. But GIS should keep their own entry in the encyclopedia, as a technology used in Geomatics. Moreover, the status of Geomatics engineering seems unclear, as it is a mere list of the technologies used in Geomatics. It could become a section of the new article.
