Conflict between sources[edit]

The NSW Parliament Source states that he was an MLA from 18 November 1880. However this clearly conflicts with the contemporary newspaper account (18 November 1880), which has him being selected to stand for the Legislative Assembly on the preceding Monday (15 November 1880) and states that the election will be held the following Thursday (25 November 1880). He would have taken his seat when the Legislative Assembly met following that election. MargaretRDonald (talk) 22:25, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@MargaretRDonald: In the account you refer to, Carter tells his supporters to vote "on Thursday next", i.e. the Thursday following Monday 15 November. This report from The Daily Telegraph of Friday 19 confirms that Carter was elected on 18 November 1880, confirming the date given in The NSW Parliament Source.--Oronsay (talk) 03:33, 16 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
