Jordi Farragut → George Farragut – per WP:UCN (use common names) and WP:UE (use English). The current title is very uncommon, the least common variant of Farragut's name. Google Books results can be used to gauge relative usage: 188 hits for "George Farragut", 66 hits for "Jorge Farragut", and a mere 9 hits for "Jordi Farragut". Here is an Ngram of the three names. The subject is primarily known for activities in the United States where he was and is known as George Farragut. — AjaxSmack 03:20, 22 July 2014 (UTC) Note that the original title of the article was "Jorge Farragut" from its creation 2007 in until an undiscussed move to the present title in 2011 under the rationale of "use the original Catalan surname" [sic].[reply]

Survey and discussion[edit]

Support - he adopted the spelling "George" and became an American citizen. However first line should follow WP:FULLNAME with Catalan birth name including maternal name, and then "known in America as" (I have corrected lead to conform to this already). Whether/how to also place in lead sentence the Spanish spelling Jorge is another issue. In ictu oculi (talk) 06:09, 22 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

American people of Catalan descent[edit]

Catalan can mean someone from Catalonia or it can refer to the language. When marking someone as being of Catalan descent, it seems its referring to Catalonia. It would be more precise and correct to mark Farragut as "American people of Balearic descent". Known in America as[edit]

The article states that Farragut changed his name to George. If so it is not untrue that he was known as George but one would infer from this statement that he hadn't changed his name. It's like saying Washington is known as George Washington in the U.S. Anyone called by their name is known as a person of that name. Using the phrase in this article implies that people in the U.S. assign George to Farragut as if that was not in fact his name. It would be correct instead to state something like, "Born Jordi Farragut Mesquida and later George Farragut". If one insisted on keeping the 'known as' phrase, one could add, accurately, 'known as Jordi Farragut' in Catalonia. But then one would be compelled to add, 'known as Jorge in Spain, Giorgy in Russia, Jürgen in Germany, Giorgio in Italy, etc'. As this is not typically done in articles, I recommend the simpler, 'Born X, later Y' or the like.
