notes from shuguang zhang[edit]

from personal correspondence, and his writing on their 80th birthday, GFDL:

Professors George and Eva Klein not only have inspired a few generations
of leading biomedical researchers but also have had enormous influence in
the fields of tumor and cancer biology, immunology, and virology around the
world. They personally taught and mentored a very large number of influ-
ential biomedical and medical researchers and medical scientists not only at
the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden, but also in Europe and rest of
the world.

I first visited Karolinska Institute in September 1999.
He signed his book Atheist and Holy City, recommended to me by Robert Horvitz,
but also gave me another of his book, Living Now.

Subsequently, I invited George Klein to give a History of Biology Lecture
at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in September 2000. When I
asked George to give me a title of his lecture, he did not just give me one but
four titles! He came together with his son Dr. Peter Klein, a mathematician
with a Ph.D. from Columbia University, New York. Peter was then interest-
ed in complex problems involving mathematics in biology.

I met Eva Klein in Peter’s house in November 2002. Eva in her usual open‐
minded, direct, and warm manner immediately told me that I am now an
honorary member of her family since I am of the same age as Peter Klein. I am
very honored. During conversation, I learned that Eva is the person who,
together with her postdoc, discovered the now extremely important and
ubiquitous Natural Killer cells, a crucial advancement for immunology and
tumor biology. I asked her why she gave the name Natural Killer cells. She told
me that these cells were discovered from the control experiments and since
these cells could be activated without external stimulations, they are the
natural killers. this discovery was mostly either taken for granted or
                      totally forgotten...

George has written many books that are utterly refreshing.
he does not per se write the books; rather, he dictates...

George Klein (biologist)Georg Klein (biologist) – His first name is misspelled; It is Georg, not George --Nordicblonde (talk) 22:33, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think I've only seen it written as George -- on the cover page of Pieta, for example. Do you have examples of it written as Georg? SlimVirgin (talk) 22:51, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose move: I recommend keeping the article at George Klein (biologist). For his English language publications he prefers 'George.' The front cover of The atheist and the holy city spells his name as George Klein. His German Wikipedia page says Georg Klein, auch George Klein, (* 28. Juli 1925 in Budapest).. Here is a 1990 scientific paper where he is George Klein. To show that he sometimes uses Georg, see his biography page (in English) at the Karolinska Institute. Our rule is to prefer the name that is most commonly used for him in English, which would be 'George.' EdJohnston (talk) 04:37, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose move per EdJohnston above. But I'll make a note of the alternative spellings in George Klein. Altered Walter (talk) 08:52, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. He is given as "George Klein" as the author of both The Atheist and the Holy City and Pietà. Kauffner (talk) 15:08, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. I've made further inquiries and he uses George in English texts, and Georg in Swedish ones. SlimVirgin (talk) 17:07, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per WP:STAGENAME which also covers pennames. See foreword by Lewis Thomas to The Atheist and the Holy City 1992 "As this book demonstrates, George Klein cannot really be lodged in the mind as a particular national, nor even as a representative of any singular ethnic culture. He is, to put it simply, a citizen of everyplace." In ictu oculi (talk) 01:28, 22 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Live now[edit]

From the description of content, I think that "Live now" probably is the translation of "Utvägen" (published in Swedish 1992). --90.236.28.78 (talk) 07:49, 4 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
