User:FloridaArmy - Probably not. The subject of this article is said to have established an AME church in 1857, which means that he was probably born in the 1820s or 1830s, which is consistent with a short political career around 1870. If the same person was convicted of manslaughter in 1915, the news would have probably referred to an elderly negro or an ancient freedman.
