IT is clear at this point that he has no degree, I have heard him asked and heard his negative answer, it does say a lot about the man that he allows this ambiguity unless faced with no way to avoid misrepresenting himself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by209.82.103.3 (talkcontribs)

Perhaps was a little overzealous, but felt pretty sure that those two weren't going to achieve something for Wiki to document in the future. <shrug> Krupo 19:13, Oct 5, 2004 (UTC)

position at Ryerson

I think it would make sense to add something indicating his position at the University of Ryerson. I'm just not sure where to put it. Suggestions? Ummcke09 21:36, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

It should probably be chronological, so perhaps the federal election campaign section can be changed to "Current activities"? - Jord 02:24, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

graduate from university

He has no degree notations on him name, if he is going to say he was educated at those schools as it does in his officail bio then I think failed is a fair description. —Precedingunsigned comment added by 209.82.103.3 (talkcontribs)

Not only is there no evidence that he "failed" (required to withdraw from the university, rather than dropping out) but Trent's Alumni Association seems to recognise him as an alumnus: "The most recent Ontario provincial election had its share of Trent alumni candidates : Gerard Kennedy '77 was elected for the Liberals in Parkdale High Park...." [1] No degree is listed (that seems to be Trent's particular style), and Kennedy's official bio is indeed vague, but I think that an alumni association's acceptance of him is conclusive, absent some stronger evidence to the contrary. --Cory.willis 19:37, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

Though alumni does not necessarily imply graduation: see alumni; and Wikipedia usage on "alumni" categories includes former students who accumulated significant enough presence but did not graduate.Samaritan 23:22, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

If it is true that he was born in 1960, then I find it extremely difficult to believe that he graduated from university in 1977!! You are telling me he graduated from university before Harper graduated from high school even though Harper is older?? Unless someone produces conclusive proof he GRADUATED from Trent we should conclude that there is an overwhelming presumption that he merely attended in 1977 (and probably for a year at most since he apparently left in 77).Bdell555 06:32, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

Here he is listed again as "Gerard Kennedy '77" in an alumni publication[2], howeverhere it says that alumni are listed by "year of entry" so it is unclear when he left Trent. - Jord 10:00, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

FYI all - in today's paper it says Kennedy does not have a degree but is 3 credits short[3] - Jord 18:14, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Cites on supporters

Would it be possible to get cites on John Cannis, Andrew Telegdi and Brent St. Denis supporting Kennedy? (Never mind the former MPs.) I'm following this pretty closely and haven't seen these names crop up. --Hamiltonian 04:48, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

I live in Brent St Denis' riding of Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing,I am a member of the Liberal Riding Executive and as of April 24 th Brent had not made any public declaration of support for Gerard or any candidate. I predict , based on some personal discussions that he is likely to go with Team Dryden. How and by whom are these names monitored and or removed if not verifiable? User:North of French River 17:15, 25 April 2006

They're essentially monitored by us, Wikipedia being the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit. I'll remove the unsourced names. --Hamiltonian 01:15, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

A thousand pardons Hamiltonian... spoke with one of Brent's Ottawa staffers tonite and it appears that Brent has in fact agreed to endorse Gerard. According to my source, the decision was just made today. Im still concerned however about unsourced posting in regards to some of these names, especially Michael Bryant who Im certain is with his riding mate Bennett, for example. I cannot find the source at the moment, but I believe I've read that Kennedy also has Churchill MP Tina Keeper.

Keeper was mentioned in the endorsement article but the source was a "my friend heard" post from a blog. So I removed it. --JGGardiner 02:58, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
No problemo. If even it is true (and I believe you), it's always best to wait for a paper (or an equivalently trustworthy source) to report on it. --Hamiltonian 03:01, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
Yes, I think that sooner or later I'm going to have to mention that the threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth in the endorsement article. But I'm not sure that anyone reads the talk page. --JGGardiner 03:08, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Endorsements

However, fellow provincial colleagues George Smitherman and Greg Sorbara have announced that they are supporting former Ontario NDP Premier Bob Rae for the federal leadership.

Does anyone other than GoldDragon believe this information is appropriate or necessary to a Gerard Kennedy biography? CJCurrie 04:05, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Well I wouldn't want to speak for another editor but I believe that Jord readded that info the last time. --JGGardiner 04:08, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

He may have just been editing a prior version; I'm not sure the re-addition was deliberate (of course, if he endorses the section I'd be quite willing to hear his argument). CJCurrie 04:11, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

I say leave it out. It doesn't make sense to include lists of people not supporting a particular candidate. HistoryBA 13:08, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, if I readded it it was accidental, I was just wikilinking and alphabetizing the people on the list, not sure how I ended up doing it to an old version :S - Jord 18:12, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Well that's why I wouldn't want to speak for another editor. Personally I think that doesn't belong also. --JGGardiner 18:17, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Lots of new sources make a point of Smitherman and Sorbara's support. It is not anything controversial. GoldDragon 02:55, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

Articles are in reference to Sorbara and Smitherman supporting Rae not that they are not supporting Kennedy. The difference is that they should obviously be mentioned in the Rae article but it doesn't make sense to list them in the Kennedy article unless we are going to take note in the Volpe, Bennett and Brison articles that their former cabinet colleague Fontana is supporting Kennedy. We should list who is endorsing a candidate but it doesn't make sense to list who isn't endorsing. - Jord 14:56, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

Criticisms

This might serve best as a sub-subsection (ie: under the federal leadership bid). Thoughts?

That section is not suitable for the article, although some of the information could be included in a rewritten form. CJCurrie 01:06, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

How's his French?

I haven't seen much on his French capability ... this should be one of the line-items in any article on possible leadership contenders.

I believe the Globe and Mail had an article about all the candidates' French. GK did poorly in the first one, but they've had to issue a number of corrections since - I believe he got a slightly better grade the next time around. It's too bad he was stuck in traffic for the recent Quebec debate - we could have gotten a good number of sources to cite. -- 72.139.185.19 23:15, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Resignation and Endorsement

I think both of these sections could be condensed. I don't think a list of people endorsing GK is necessary, as this information is more suited for the Liberal Leadership Candidates article. Similarly, I think that the criticisms of Kennedy's resignation could be shortened - this seems like a relatively minor detail and extensive quoting isn't really necessary. -- 72.139.185.19 23:21, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Sigh, reading the article, feel free to edit this thing completely. The Minister of Education thing needs to be reworked too. I don't see the relevence of stating ones electorals success in his Portfolio tenure.Pete Peters 14:26, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Are you a Montrealer? Or going to the convention otherwise?

If so, leave me a message ASAP on my talk page. I'm looking to get someone into the convention with a camera. You'll have the opportunity to photograph the candidates, hopefully one-on-one. (I think I can pull a few strings with some of the key players.) -- Zanimum 20:43, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

According to his site, Kennedy didn't found the Edmonton Food Bank, but he was appointed to head it up in 1983. See http://www.gerardkennedy.ca/about_e.aspx

Cleanup

Okay, the leadership convention is over. I really think Mr. Kennedy's article needs to be cleaned up. The opening paragraph makes it sound like the convention was the biggest and only eventful moment in his life.Sima Yi 23:27, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

This appears to have been done by Jord. -- Zanimum 17:03, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
I cleaned the intro but other work may be required. - Jord 17:57, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
