I moved the piece about U-557’s fate from the HMS Galatea page, as it seemed out of place there. It comes more or less verbatim from the page on Ubootwaffe.net. The details are confirmed by Neistle, though he gives a different time for the incident.
This article is different stylistically from other U-boat articles, and relies heavily on Herbert Werner's book Iron Coffins.
This book has been subject of discussion on the Werner article talk page and at MILHIST: For the reasons given there, it cannot be accepted as a reliable source for historical fact, though as a personal memoir it is a useful insight into the thoughts and opinions of a German U-boat officer of the time.
I have therefore re-written the article, to match the style of other, similar, articles, and confined the content to information that can be substantiated by other, more acceptable, sources. Xyl 54 (talk) 20:52, 31 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
