Untitled[edit]

For now, I am going to slap an NPOV label on this - I can scarcely believe that it is credible to accredit any sourness in Anglo-German relations solely to 'xenophobic' Britons. There is always give and take in a relationship and it is not the case that the relationship would be made absolutely perfect if only the big bad Englishman did not mention the war and march around like Basil Fawlty. What nonsense. InfectedWithRage 23:01, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The article is neither neutral nor of high quality, it appears like a loose collection of facts without systematic analysis. "Blaming it all on the British" is also quite out of the question. Please could someone clean this up? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 194.199.252.252 (talkcontribs) 2006-11-17T16:07:58 (UTC).

But the British are to blame! So what do you expect? Lying? Bending the facts? --92.223.57.28 (talk) 12:35, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Needs a complete rewrite. Could then do with images.--Boson 07:17, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The "Anglo-" part strikes me as overly England-centric, considering that the article is about relations with the United Kingdom. Hairy Dude 13:51, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reference to a much better article[edit]

That article isn't "much better", it's just as biased towards the British as the current article is on Wikipedia. Dancingwombatsrule (talk) 13:08, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I am German, and I don´t see the point here ( but it might be because my english ist too bad ) anyway, I agree with the others, that this article is rubbish. It starts somewhere in the 18th century and does not reach further then the time between the war. And please mention the war =) And I think a link to the episode of Fawlty towers would be great in order to understand parts of the english mentality. Please also mention German equivalents as well.

I think something that at least somehow affected the realtioinship between Gemany and England was the case of the German boy/young man beeing accused for (attemted?) rape in Turky. At least the german Media seemed to condamn all english, and it was suggested that all english beleived it was rape, while in Germany it was debatable. I for my part researched english Sites und figured out that the english as well debated heavily an the theme. Sad example for the german press.

Last but ot least an artikel from a german newspaper, about english-german relationship, source is a english professor http://www.abendblatt.de/daten/2006/06/06/570299.html

Should mention period of tensions before WWI[edit]

Mainly caused by Germany bulking up its navy, which was mostly just a matter of international prestige for Germany, but which was considered by the British a threat to their basic existence (since Britain was not self-sufficient in basic food production and depended on maritime food imports to avoid starvation), and which therefore launched a naval arms race, and set the stage for the Anglo-French "Entente Cordiale" and subsequent events (see German Naval Laws, High Seas Fleet, Tirpitz Plan etc.) AnonMoos (talk) 07:44, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Anglo-German relationsUnited Kingdom - Germany relations — I think we need to move the article from Anglo-German relations to United Kingdom - Germany relations as this article deals with the UK as a whole, not just England. EuroPride (talk) 13:55, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose - as with similar articles, this is the usual term, rightly or wrongly, and covers the whole of the UK. Johnbod (talk) 15:39, 27 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

German spouses[edit]

"Every British monarch from George I to Edward VII in the twentieth century, took a Royal German spouse."
Edward VII's consort was Danish.

grammar and syntax[edit]

i agree with all the criticisms of the content of this article, but i am equally amazed that an article written in such bad english can be allowed to remain on this site. there is a mistake in nearly every sentence! 62.254.78.128 (talk) 11:20, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Napoleonic Wars section is lacking[edit]

The brief discussion of Anglo-Prussian relations during the Napoleonic Wars would suffice if the wars ended in about 1806 with a French victory. Instead, Britain and Prussia were on the winning side of the Napoleonic Wars and this profited both powers immensely- establishing definitive British global supremacy and empowering Prussia to later become the key power on the European mainland. Prussian generals (Blücher) became celebrities in Britain. This is significant and warrants a mention. F.M. Sir D.H (talk) 23:11, 8 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
