Largest Win[edit]

I've just watched part of the documentary series "The History of Football: The Beautiful Game" and seen former Ghanaian international player Osei Kofi speaking of playing for Ghana against the Kenyan national side in 1965 and defeating Kenya 13-0. Which beats the largest win shown here on this page of 12-0 against Malawi. RSSSF doesn't have this result under Ghana (http://www.rsssf.com/tablesg/gha-intres.html) but it DOES have this result under Kenya albeit without a precise date (http://www.rsssf.com/tablesk/kenya-intres.html) where it is shown as a Jamhuri Cup match. Jooler 08:15, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is there any other confirmation of this match and result? Jooler 06:18, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I am having trouble verifying the largest defeat someone put up. I can't find any mention of it on RSSSF etc., but sources like this one [1] seem to suggest it happened. Is there some kind of requirement, like only including competitive matches? Iae 12:25, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image editing[edit]

How do I edit or change images. I would like to perfect the images of Ghana's national team jerseys Kodakie 13:56, 26 June 2006 (CET)

  • The jerseys on Wikipedia football team articles are put together using a special composite template; you can find out how to use it at Template talk:Football kit. To customise the images any further than what is already available, however (for example, to make the star design for the Ghana jerseys), you would need to use an external image editor such as Photoshop and then upload the file. --Kwekubo 14:46, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Recent Results Section[edit]

I recently re-organized this section into table format so things were a bit more readable. The results however now stretch into 2005. Is there a criterion for deciding the time frame for this ? -- (just in case I am not aware of it?)

If there isn't, I suggest that results over the previous year are included so that the current cut off point should be such that only matches from January 2006 (or January 2005?) onwards are included. This then stays till 2008 when the cut off shifts to 2007 (or ???2006) etc. This way results for the last year at least are always available.

I would not like to edit this myself as people such as Deciiva have put a lot of effort into getting this page to this stage.

Fair use rationale for Image:Ghana FA.gif[edit]

Image:Ghana FA.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:47, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kit[edit]

Ghana wear an all white first strip with black trim today, but prior to the World Cup 2006 qualifiers the home kit was usually all yellow.

When did this change from yellow to white take place and were there any reasons for it? Jonzi9 (talk) 14:33, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

History section[edit]

This whole section appear very unencyclopaedic. Much of it makes no reference to the national team, the subject of the article; those parts that do are quotation- rather than fact- driven. I strongly suspect that there are large lumps of copyvio, but I have only been able to identify one source so far. Kevin McE (talk) 17:48, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

An editor keeps reposting large tracts that are already present in another article, that is not directly about the national team, that is unencyclopaedic in tone, and poorly written, although he/she has been invited several times to justify its inclusion. Maybe this time they will actually respond to the invitation to give reasons BEFORE any change. Kevin McE (talk) 20:53, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ghana national football team dind´t play a match against Real Madrid, as it says at the begining of the history section. It was against a club named "Black Stars" of Ghana, equal to the nickname given to the national team, but it wasn't the national team of Ghana.

Here's a reference from the spanish newspaper ABC which refers to that match. It says in every paragraph Real Madrid vs. Black Stars, a team from Ghana.

This mistake should be corrected. If want to keep the info, just say something like: A team called "Black Stars" (same as national team) played a team vs. Real Madrid....... Otherwise, i think that it should be erased, because Real Madrid dindn't play any match against Ghana national team. Regards. --Brgesto (talk) 13:12, 7 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Article length?[edit]

Should this page be broken into several? Some of the lists could be single pages so as to keep the page length down. Just my idea.

Image copyright problem with File:Ghana FA.png[edit]

The image File:Ghana FA.png is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --19:26, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Match results[edit]

There is a mistake in the article. Ghana didnt play a frendly against Slovenia on 27 May 2010. I dont know who did they played with in Paris, but I am 100% that it wasnt Slovenia! Correct the mistake please. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ratipok (talkcontribs) 13:36, 5 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article now lists their biggest win 17-0 over Kenya, yet in the source referred to there is no mention of this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.78.159.198 (talk) 21:58, 29 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Player Drain To Other Countries[edit]

I believe this whole section should br removed as WP:OR - other thoughts? GiantSnowman 11:02, 2 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I too think that it's WP:OR. The main reference provided talks about Ghanaian players moving to Europe to play in club sides for economic reasons, rather than discussing the national team. It also seems to imply that this is a uniquely Ghanaian issue, which is clearly not the case. Ilikeeatingwaffles (talk) 11:26, 2 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Recent call-ups column and Head coaches column[edit]

GiantSnowman and Ilikeeatingwaffles, I honestly do not want to get into a edit war with Banana Fingers and that's why I have consulted you two and brought the situation with Banana Fingers to the talk page as you GiantSnowman had suggested to me.

The column of the Recent call-ups section is columnized so that the recent call-up players would contain the same information of the player Height as the Current squad and to distinguish the recent call-ups from the current squad, and so that if a player from the recent call-up section is called into the Ghana national football team current squad in the near future for Ghana's forthcoming international friendly match against Chile national football team on 29 February 2012 or forthcoming 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifications matches, then the information and Height of the player(s) can easily be transferred from the recent squad to current squad and vice-versa.

Head coaches column[edit]

GiantSnowman and Ilikeeatingwaffles, the column in the Head coaches section is also columnized as it has been columnized already for more than 1 year now. The Head coaches column, also makes it much neater, easier to view and read for Wikipedia viewers and more pleasing to the eye for viewers on electronic devices such as iPad's, tablet computer's and Smartphones . -- MarkMysoe (talk) 03:51, 4 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Protection[edit]

I've have fully protected the article from editing for one week. Hash out your editing disputes here, folks. MarkMysoe, stop calling others' edits vandalism. Banana Fingers, stop your yelling posts on MM's talk page. LadyofShalott 16:41, 4 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've already advised them both to bring it here - but to no avail, they continued to bicker, and now Banana Fingers has a two-week block. Ho hum. GiantSnowman 16:43, 4 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request on 5 February 2012[edit]

I want to change the Ghana's away kit for the new kit which was presented

I want to update the team's stats after today's match agains Tunisia. Danielmordor (talk) 22:43, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You don't get to edit it, we have to edit it for you. You have to provide the precise text you want to edit and what you want it changed to—for example, "In line 3 of table x, change the number 5 to a 6. And of course, if the change you're requesting has anything to do with a dispute or edit war, you have to provide a reliable source. --Laser brain (talk) 19:13, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nat fs templates[edit]

I have restored the {{nat fs g start}} and {{nat fs r start}} templates per wp:deviations. I see no reason why this should be the only national football team article using non-standard table headers. 198.102.153.2 (talk) 21:57, 7 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The template color scheme is the colors of the Ghana national football team (as with any other sports teams such as Basketball teams etc) and is applied as to coordinate with the statistics charts and tournament squad templates color scheme and not intended to be a costumization, so therefore wp:deviations does not apply to this situation and is a neglible reason for the a force use of {{nat fs g start}} and {{nat fs r start}} templates. 149.254.181.227 (talk) 03:02, 8 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that this article should be using the standard templates. There also appears to be some problems with MOS:NUM#Typography with the use of superscripted ordinals. Perhaps this should be discussed at WT:FOOTY? Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 03:04, 8 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Editing out Icons and images[edit]

Before removing any images and Icons make sure you discuss it on here. If any stats are wrong correct them with a source rather than delete them. Also not including recent call ups for the national team and rather leaving players who have essentially no chance of going to the world cup as the core of the team is deceptive. Lastly, stop edit waring. You did not write this page so please only change things with a credible source. Medicineman84 (talk) 21:49, 7 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Original research, excessive statistics, ...[edit]

Large portions of this article were cut due to WP:original research, WP:NOTSTATS, WP:MOSICON, WP:COPYVIO. please feel free to discuss any particular part which was unfairly removed before re-adding it, or rolling back the edits. Frietjes (talk) 19:06, 7 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

None of the things you said were excessive. No need to edit an article which has been standing for months(essentially spitting on others(not me) hard work)... rather, discuss what is already there and justify everything you are removing :)

Everything you point as excessive exists on other pages.

Medicineman84 (talk) 22:02, 7 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

every removal edit was justified. what was not justified was the rollback to an old version. Frietjes (talk) 22:10, 7 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Well friend, all I ask is you point out specifically what needs to be removed and why. Rather than removing so much data with no clear justification as to why you removed all of it.

Every removed thing should be justified PLEASE. Medicineman84 (talk) 22:31, 7 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not the only one removing this WP:original research, WP:NOTSTATS, WP:MOSICON, WP:COPYVIO, see the edit history. I have posted the required WP:3RR on your talk page. I will post a note at WT:FOOTY for more input. Frietjes (talk) 22:47, 7 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I sent you a little message about edit warring... I have not time for childish games... and will only delete the image of Abedi Pele which has a wrong fact. Namely, that trophy is not Ghana's African cup trophy or a trophy he won. The actual trophy has changed and that is what the person whose work you so rudely deleted demonstrated.... You see I know a lot more than you about the topic but you speak excessively. Either way, good riddance... I won't be engaging you anymore... Medicineman84 (talk) 23:00, 7 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This page has been a terrible mess for a while - excessive use of images, mad collections of stats, repeated info, inappropriate usage of icons, copyright violations, not keeping to a neutral point of view, etc. I tried making a bunch of edits, providing reasons why, but a lot of this was undone without justification being provided.Ilikeeatingwaffles (talk) 12:20, 8 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • I have made a cull to the article content which is in violation of various policies as stated by Frietjes above, I will be requesting page protection if unsourced material is restored to the article, or excessive images are added without reasonable cause.See WP:MOSIM and WP:IMAGE RELEVANCE. C679 17:20, 8 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Final clean version[edit]

This should be considered the final clean version with no excesses or unneeded garbage. Any attempt to falsify data will be met with full force. Medicineman84 (talk) 18:46, 8 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Considering that the article hasn't even met good article status, let alone featured article, there is still a long way to go in making it up to scratch. Ilikeeatingwaffles (talk) 08:32, 10 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Also it should be noted that Belgium national football team is not a good (or featured) article and there is no reason to copy sections from it. C679 11:51, 10 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Three users have now removed the "FIFA rankings history" section in the last 48 hours. Please do not restore without discussion here. C679 12:01, 10 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that the Belgium national football team page was way too large a couple of months ago (sorry for the unintended FIFA Ranking 'example'), but by now a lot of clean-up took place. Of course the 'golden standards' remain the good and featured NFT articles, but Belgium's one has improved. Kareldorado (talk) 10:52, 23 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Olympics and other u23 + OLDER[edit]

The olympics are included in most countries pages because it is not solely and U23 tournament. If you are going to edit it here you would have to go through and edit it in all 200+ associations sites. And the coaches do matter, especially when you are destroying the box that existed and ruining the page...

Medicineman84 (talk) 16:27, 23 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestions for the images[edit]

Hi, I found it great to see how this article moved towards B-class (and attempted to contribute as well with some clean-up afterwards). Recently some images were added which seem very relevant, but I think the lay-out could be improved:

  • Reduce the size, as some are enormous.
  • Specify the event(s) depicted in the image, and if it is about the same event the years or editions.
  • For multiple images you could for instance add (left), (right), and so on
  • The colored frames (especially the red) give a heavy view, consider dropping them

Good luck in further editing, Kareldorado (talk) 10:42, 23 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Before...?[edit]

This article says "Ghana's" first international match was in 1950, but Ghana took its independence in 1957, yet when talking about the history of the national team, nobody even mentions what happened before Ghana existed as an independent country in the "History" section, as they do in, exempli gratia, South Korea national football team's article. Now, someone should unify these concepts, I'm not an wikipedist, more like a regular reader, but someone should wheter change the first cap of Ghana's NT or add the colonial teams who represented that land before 1957 in the "History" section 45.238.55.13 (talk) 14:46, 3 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
