Warrensville Heights, Ohio

A Giant Tiger store opened on Northfield Road in Warrensville Heights, Ohio in the late 1960's. Within a year of opening, the Giant Tiger changed its name to "Gaylord's Giant Tiger", the store was not as large as Uncle Bill's store at Northfield Road, about a half mile away, and the GT was a stand alone mid block building, which was counter to Discount Department Stores anchoring shopping centers. I believe that the GT closed by the mid seventies.Sjkoblentz (talk) 23:51, 13 November 2013 (UTC)

Was There An American Giant Tiger Chain?

Perhaps we could use some research on this subject. I distinctly remember that in the 1950's, there were locally sourced Cleveland, Ohio, television shows sponsored by a discount retailer called Giant Tiger. The commercials used the song "Tiger Rag" (Hold That Tiger) as a theme song I very vaguely remember at least one store in Euclid, Ohio, not too terribly far from our home. I should also like to say that as far as I am aware, the Uncle Bill's discount chain was founded and headquartered in the Cleveland, Ohio, area. Though it's corporate sister supermarket chain, Pick-N-Pay, reached out in a different direction when it came time to expand, Uncle Bill's certainly may have made it's way down to Columbus by the late '60's. It was a division of what would eventually be known as Cook United Inc. NorthCoastReader (talk) 00:06, 25 June 2018 (UTC)
