Scale bars on images[edit]

I would like to see scale bars on the micrographs of giardia. How big are they? I'm a microscopist (non-biological) and I consider it good practice to alway include this information with any images.

The "unranked" was outdated...[edit]

So I changed it. Excavata was formerly regarded as an unranked taxon, but then a 2003 paper designated it a kingdom. Just ask the Article on Excavata. The Mysterious El Willstro (talk) 08:28, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No Prevention in Prevention[edit]

The Prevention section is really about means of transmission. There is no information in it about preventing infection. A useful addition would be some short info about how to treat water to remove the organisms and their cysts. rowley (talk) 19:57, 16 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Two years later (almost to the day), I see that this issue has not been addressed. The Prevention section really ought to have something in it about prevention. Therefore, unless and until such time as this article is merged with the other aforementioned article on Giardia lamblia, I'm taking the step of posting the Prevention section of that article here, as well. This is important information, and people seeking help about prevention of Giardia infection should not be forced to dig that hard for it, especially as the other article is not linked prominently from here, giving the false impression that this article is the best or only source of info that Wikipedia has to offer on the subject. rowley (talk) 22:59, 17 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Light microscope photos[edit]

This article has some very nice electron micrographs, but Giardia looks a lot different under a light microscope, and that's what commonly used to diagnose an infection of Giardia lamblia. It kind of looks like a face with the eyes being its two nuclei. The appearance is very distinctive. This article should have a photo of one of the trophozoites taken with a light microscope. Boiling time[edit]

Does anyone know the origin of the one-minute guideline for killing giardia? The EPA reference, after recommending one minute, recommends three minutes when above 5000 ft, presumably because of the lower boiling temperature. But ... really? Is there some chemical reaction or transport process that really takes an entire minute inside the body of a microscopic organism? I would have thought if a protein is going to denature at, say 80°C, it's going to do that after a few vibrations, and not wait around for a trillion more.
