Questions[edit]

  • Should Glyptemys and Clemmys remain capitalized throughout?
  • How is a caption added to the Cladogram image (I would like it to say something like "The evolutionary history of these two turtles suggests that they share a common ancestor and that the bog turtle, somewhere in its history, has split into two distinct populations," but when I type this in it just extends the box).
  • Do the first two developed sections read okay and also, do they seem to copy the two respective articles too much (I know all the info's sourced and I wrote a large part of those two articles, but I am just unsure of the proper decorum in this situation)?--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 03:36, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Cladograms are not images in the graphic sense. So they don't have alt text. You can add info to the caption as desired if the line goes to long you can add a new line with
I think. Try it. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 12:34, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know of proper decorum in this situation making the article somewhat of a challenge. In general duplication should be reduced where possible. Is seems there is extensive references available so I'm interested to see what turns up in relation to the genus. One advantage of the article is that with two turtles it's possible to comment on the relationship or comparison between the two. In the rodent(Oryzomys) genus that we turned up there was a comparitive table, with size and other things compared. This could be done here either in table or in prose. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 12:34, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that genus consists of eight species, thus a table was imperative. I'm wondering if I can get away with a "comparative morphology" section. I do describe them fairly well in their respective paragraphs...a table may be necessary though. I'll see.--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 14:26, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Two species' sections[edit]

Is there any concern about what the species sections say...I'm trying to tackle this article section by section?--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 21:58, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Taxobox IUCN rating[edit]

How would I manipulate the taxobox to show that the bog turtle is "endangered" and the wood turtle is "vulberable?"--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 22:14, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Each parameter line in most boxes can be extended, by multiple lines and content. Here you may like to extend subdivision with something like ''Glyptemys muhlenbergii'' [[file:Status iucn2.3 EN.svg|frameless|link=|alt=]]

''Glyptemys insculpta'' [[file:Status iucn2.3 VU.svg|frameless|link=|alt=]]. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 23:13, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going to add this you can always revert/amend as you see fit. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 23:14, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Perfect. Thank you.--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 02:02, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

New layout[edit]

How's something like this for a new layout (as per this suggestion)?:

  • Lead
  • Taxonomy
  • Distribution and Habitat
    • Evolutionary history
  • Description
  • Ecology and behavior
    • Reproduction and life cycle
    • Diet
    • Natural threats
  • Conservation
In each of these sections, I will generalize the information to include both turtles without saying their different names too much.--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 00:28, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cladogram[edit]

I'm having a tough time making the cladogram look just right. I'd like there to be a "label" line that says "turtle," with three distinct lines coming off it: one for the spotted turtle, one for the wood turtle, and another that splits into bog turtle (north) and bog turtle (south). I tried manipulating the one here, but I became thoroughly confused. Any suggestions?--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 00:37, 8 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Title here if required
Turtle
The evolutionary history of these two turtles suggests that they share a common ancestor and that the bog turtle, in its history, has split into two distinct populations.

Like this example on left? Regards, SunCreator (talk) 00:40, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Brilliant. Thank you so much for sticking with me.--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 01:41, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Portion of Emydidae family[1]
The evolutionary history of these two turtles suggests that they share a recent common ancestor and that the bog turtle, in its history, has split into two distinct populations.

Now that it's been changed should the caption change as the cladogram does not indicate 'split into two distinct populations' of the north and south bog turtle. Or perhaps the cladogram should be amended to reflect this? Regards, SunCreator (talk) 22:57, 27 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree a change should be made: caption, not cladogram. It could say something about the systematics involved, perhaps something like: "In the past, the taxonomic classification of these turtles looked very different however, the current system has Clemmys as a monotypic genus and Glyptemys, Terrepene, and Emys as three distinct genera."--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 23:25, 27 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
And perhaps that the Emys trinacris is not shown. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 23:32, 27 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I'll change it right now.--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 23:35, 27 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Just a test[edit]

Should this table be included somewhere:

Statistics of species of Glyptemys
Species Distribution Length Weight Defining attributes
Glyptemys muhlenbergii Vermont south to Georgia
and west to Ohio [1]
Males-9.4 centimeters (3.7 in)
Females-8.9 centimeters (3.5 in) [2]
110 grams (3.9 oz)[3] Small, bright blotch on side of neck, secretive [4]
Glyptemys insculpta Nova Scotia south to
Virginia and west to Minnesota [5]
Both genders-14 to 20 centimeters (5.5 to 7.9 in)[6] 1 kilogram (35 oz)[7] Dark gray to black head, bright orange coloration on ventral surfaces[8]
?--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 01:06, 8 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'll throw it in there.--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 20:01, 8 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

nice page[edit]

see what you mean about trying to get an FT.TCO (talk) 08:38, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, this article needs a LOT of work though.--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 18:07, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I thought you could go get the other one up to FA and then just kinda be short and sweet on this one. It's just a category of two items. No? Put most effort on the wood turtle?TCO (talk) 18:28, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
True, I've been using this article as sort of a model: Pudú. It's a genus with two species and is GA. It's rather short (even though it encompasses both species [they don't have their own article]). I suppose I could, after the painted of course, add more content to the wood turtle while combining info into this article. It shouldn't be too hard now that you mention it (maybe strive for GT instead of FT...I don't know)--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 18:32, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
