Availability[edit]

Google Dictionary is available to date on international (google.com) version of the site using define: operator. There exists a search engine addon for Mozilla web browser for the English dictionary. -19:23, 13 March 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.108.117.135 (talk)

Recent Changes to Format[edit]

Some discussion is in order re the recent alteration to the dictionary whereby one is steered not to a definition but to some book or other commodity which shares the entries’ spelling. Thus the need to find the simple meaning of a word is completely stymied. However, it is difficult to get any information about this quite irritating and self-serving practice because googling in the words “google dictionary” or any such similar words only leads to dictionary links. Oxford Dictionaries / OxfordDictionaries.com[edit]

Oxford Dictionaries is now defunct. Its wiki link redirects to the entry for Lexico (which is also now defunct). I've changed the main mentions of it to Oxford Languages (Google's new main provider of dictionaries), but two mentions of it – just above and below the table – are difficult to simply swap to Oxford Languages. The problem is that Google no longer appears to license all of its dictionaries through Oxford (the French definitions, for example, are attributed directly to Dictionnaires Le Robert, with no mention of Oxford). Those sentences need to be updated, if anyone can find information on Google's current licensing practices for all its international dictionaries. Hexolio (talk) 02:27, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
