County history[edit]

So, from what I gather, you're saying that the Village of Goshen was never in Ulster County? The line must have come very close to it, though, if Newburgh and what was to become Middletown were in Ulster. Was the Town of Goshen, or portions thereof, ever in Ulster County? I know that there are old deeds in the Orange County Government Center for places now in Rockland County, like one I saw for Tappan. Thanks, Wordreader (talk) 20:27, 29 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Orange County Government Center[edit]

"Goshen's northern section is dominated by the Orange County Government Center, a brutalist work by Paul Rudolph (architect) that has long been despised locally."

1. This is not universally true as the sentence implies. There is a local element that does dislike the building, but there are also many architecture lovers that do NOT "despise" the building, but admire it. A friend of mine and some of her architecture friends even want to have the building placed on the National Register of Historic Places. (Yes, it's possible: http://www.nps.gov/history/nr/publications/bulletins/pdfs/nrb22.pdf )

2. Even if there are "despisers", I think that it's too emotionally charged a term to use in an encyclopedic format. How about "controversial"? That way, all shades of feeling are covered.

Pedo priest goes to jail[edit]

In 1992, the tiny, provincial village was rocked by the same criminal, Catholic priesthood pedophilia that was gradually being exposed nation and world wide. Fr. Edward Pipala (then age 53) the pastor of St. John the Evangelist, R. Catholic Church on Murray Ave, had been molesting troubled, young teens in a number of parishes, including Sacred Heart in Monroe, NY, Staten Island and Croton Falls, NY for decades.^[1]

This seems WP:UNDUE and out-of-scope. Several sources state he was abusing children in several towns in the county, and--without trivializing the terrible harm this pervert caused--this seems like a routine news event about a pedo priest getting caught and going to jail. What is uniquely encyclopedic about this, and why must it be included in this article?

@Magnolia677 Thanx 4 ur input. My assertion is this is an extremely important event in the "history of Goshen, NY" ...or any small, provincial town. This may be a moot point, between us. It is the only such recorded, mass molestation event in Goshen's ~300 year history.

...btw, why r u calling this priest/individual a "pervert" ? That's unnecessary & immature. Convicted felon or criminal would be more appropriate, no sense in making ambiguous, subjective 'moral' judgements. Peace is contagious (talk) 21:10, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
