Contested deletion[edit]

Gourmet Garage is important. It changed the tone of gourmet food shopping in New York City. At a time when high end foods were found, as the article says, in emporiums like Dean and DeLuca, which treated food as if it were jewelry, Gourmet Garage treated it as if it were produce. It's one of those changes that has become so complete that it's imperceptible, but as someone who has shopped for high end food in NYC for 30 years, I can say that it was a sea change.
