August 2013[edit]

This comment in the first graf is not sourced: "Multiple grand marshals are planned for the 2014 parade when the Tournament of Roses will celebrate the 100th Rose Bowl Game and the return of the BCS National Championship Game to Pasadena." I have been covering the TOR for years, and it would be highly unusual for anyone to reveal anything about the Grand Marshal prior to the formal announcement. They are so tight-lipped they do not even allow any sort of symbol or clothing at the announcement itself that might give it away. Also, the TOR does not put on the BCS game which will be on Jan. 6, only the Rose Bowl Game. Without a source, this is pure speculation, so I removed it and replaced it with "The Grand Marshal for the 2014 Rose Parade will be announced on Sept. 5, 2013." • The Tournament of Roses does put on the BCS Championship game as the host. It will not have a "Grand Marshal" for the BCS game. Ucla90024 (talk) 17:59, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm going to quibble with one point: There were so many hints at the announcement (baseball pennants, ballpark organ music, Cracker Jack on the snack table, blue-and-white everything) that I figured out the probable grand marshal before the announcement began (it was clearly one or more people associated with the Dodgers, and Vin Scully was the most obvious/best choice). And there have been hints in the past: Red-white-and-blue bunting and patriotic music for J.R. Martinez, southern food for Paula Deen, etc. But before announcement day, I agree, it's very secretive. When is it appropriate to change the picture ? Immediately after the announcement ? or after December 31 2013 ? (end of year). Mlpearc (powwow) 16:59, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Doesn't matter since it only illustrates a Grand Marshal. We don't have or want to post all the grand marshal pictures. Ucla90024 (talk) 17:48, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I wasn't wondering about "all the Marshall's" just "When" would it be appropriate to replace the previous Marshall's picture with the newly announced one. Mlpearc (powwow) 18:33, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I guess Floatjon !votes "now" Mlpearc (powwow) 01:10, 6 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, didn't notice this discussion before my update. I've been attending the announcements, so I generally take a picture then and post it as soon as I can after that (usually later the same day). Same for the president, since that's generally the first event I see him/her at in the signature red jacket; I don't go to the president installation, and they don't generally wear the red jacket to theme draft. I've worked under the assumption that it's always best to have the most recently named one showing. The Grand Marshal's duties pretty much end with the parade -- their activities are primarily between the announcement and the parade -- so waiting until Dec. 31 would be too late. If you're going to change, the announcement is the time that makes the most sense to me. Floatjon (talk) 05:29, 6 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Missing information what a "Grand Marshal of the Rose Parade" is[edit]

The article currently only lists the persons that were "Grand Marshals" but does not actually say anything about what that means or what that position does. So either change the article name to "List of ..." as it is only a enumeration of previous "Grand Marshals", or include more information about this "position". --Eheran (talk) 11:53, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
