Part of Gran Buenos Aires in administrative sense[edit]

What is the meaning of being part of Gran Buenos Aires in administrative sense? AFAIK there is no separate administration for GBA. User:Ejrrjs says What? 23:21, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, there! I think it means that the dark blue ones are the 24(25?) partidos officially defined as GBA. The light blue ones are de facto part of GBA but not officially so. As regards the word administratively this is tricky for me to explain but I done think it matters that there is no single GBA authority. Its like what happened in London in the 80's and 90's. The Greater London Council had been abolished but the individual boroughs that were left would still have been described as being "administratively part of Greater London". They hadnt been transferred to other neighbouring counties or anything. They were still administered in a certain way and had certain powers because they were classified as being Greater London. GREAT Buenos Aires[edit]

I live in GBA and I think that the title of the page should be changed to "Great Buenos Aires" since that would be the direct translation for "Gran Buenos Aires" (not "greater...", because nothing is being compared). As regards to GBA authority, since GBA is not part of the autonomous city, we are governed by the government of the province of Buenos Aires (I repeat, province... not city), which is also in charge of governing the rest of the province where other large cities exist, such as Bahía Blanca. I disagree, "Great Buenos Aires" sounds as a compliment in english, and I believe the use of "greater" is correct as it is "greater" than the city of Buenos Aires.

The "Gran Buenos Aires" area does NOT include Buenos Aires city and is referred as that by locals ("you are not from Buenos Aires, you are from Gran Buenos Aires"). The AMBA concept ("Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area") comprises the city of Buenos Aires + the Gran Buenos Aires 200.70.18.2 (talk) 17:18, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The name has nothing to do with comparison (as in Greater Than), but with proper English. Greater Buenos Aires is proper English grammar. Great Buenos Aires is not in this context. -- Alexf(talk) 19:40, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Agree with Alexf, "Greater" is commonly used in English to describe a large urban agglomeration, see Greater London, Greater Manchester, Greater Los Angeles etc. King of the North East 00:38, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
