Just read this obit in New York Times http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/03/us/gen-william-w-momyer-celebrated-pilot-dies-at-95.html?ref=obituaries. Of General Willam Momyer. His WWII record is very similar to that of "Bus" Beal. Has anyone ever seen anything to the effect that he was the inspiration for Bus.

Cozzens's book "A Time of War," which contains things like diary excerpts, memoranda, etc, has a letter rom Cozzens to a general he knew. The letter says that General Beal's appearance was based on Lauris Norstad and the model for Beal's ways of thinking and talking was Frederic H. Smith. Cozzens wanted to make sure that nothing that happened to General Beal in the novel resembled anything in Nordtad's or Smith's careers 2600:1702:44C0:9FA0:6061:C30F:A4B8:5F4B (talk) 00:29, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
