Trivia[edit]

To me, The Simpsons' episode of Frank Gehry in which a city auditorium is constructed --then turn in to a jail, is a clear reference to this building. Its look alike is pretty strong. 189.171.170.241 05:42, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Harvard Design[edit]

the harvard design article you refer to does indeed state that the Guggenheim Bilbao was completed on time and budget and indeed Gehry was the architect on this project - however it was the Spanish Engineering consultancy firm IDOM that managed this project and ensured that the architect, construction team etc worked on time+within budget - in fact In the quoted article Gehry does not actually specifically refer to the Guggenheim Bilbao - it talks about Gehry's projects in general

well done to the teams involved for such a fantastic achievement given all the constraints...but remember the role of IDOM as the 'Executive Architect' which took responsibility for execution and quality control, meeting deadlines + budget and guaranteeing that local contractors took on construction

Puppy Picture Error?[edit]

In the picture of the "Puppy" sculpture in the article the caption reads "Puppy by Jeff Koons 1992". In the Jeff Koons article, it clearly states that the sculpture wasn't purchased by the Guggenheim Foundation until 1997 and installed in that year. Although it was in fact created in 1992, it was first located in Germany at an art exhibition in Bad Arolsen and moved various places before its installation at the Guggenheim.

  • So, Puppy was created in 1992, the caption is correct. You answered yourself. David 09:57, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Citation Needed[edit]

"Some art enthusiasts feel that the building itself far too often overshadows the museum's collection."

I don't agree, but that doesn't matter. This needs a citation badly.

I've read a hundred times exactly this. The building overshadows the collections... which, by the way, are not that impressive... I've got some sources that could serve as citations, but they are all in Portuguese. Dornicke (talk) 18:34, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I would suggest that Portuguese references are vastly better than no references. Longwayround (talk) 16:19, 7 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
