Gay

I removed the fact of his homosexuality - it's not that I'm trying to censor Wikipedia, I'm just not sure why it would be relevant to his status as a director, let alone important enough to be the 3rd word in the article after his name. if its absolutely necessary that it be included, it should probably be put in later in the article. Whosyourjudas (talk) 05:07, 4 Oct 2004 (UTC)

I know what you mean - I'm gay, and I know that it shouldn't be a major definition of a person. However, I also think that it adds visibility and shows that gay people are everywhere. Let me add that I'm not strongly one way or the other on the issue. Just my thoughts. :-) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.162.166.143 (talkcontribs) 21:01, February 14, 2006

I disagree. The fact that he is a sodomite shouldn't be covered up. I'm against censorship in all it's forms. Invasion10 13:08, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Sodomite? Do people still say things like this? By the way, everyone who doesn't have straight missionary sex is technically a sodomite. I say cut out this nasty language or you may be reported to the incident board. Stevie is the man! TalkWork 16:23, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Guy Ritchie section

I am not sure what the connection to Guy Ritchie is. Not sure what "Wall Street cinematography" is. I removed the word "endlessly" from the language of the comparison. SidP 19:43, 18 January 2006 (UTC)

Filmography

I think that soe of his filmography has been left out. I know that Mr. Van Sant directed the music video for Hanson's "Weird" back in 1998. I wouldn't regularly expect to see this under someone's filmography, but there is another music video listed there. Plus it's not a bad video if I do say so myself.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.64.131.130 (talkcontribs) 21:29, June 8, 2006

The "Feature Films" section lists "Mala Noche" as being from 1985. The "mouse over"-effect there says: "MN is a 1986 drama...". The Wiki page on MN says "This article is about the 1988 film. Mala Noche (also known as Bad Night) is a 1986 American drama film". That's slightly confusing. Is that a mixture of "made in", "released in" and "distributed in"?

POV

This article is permeated with point-of-view problems. I think it needs to be flagged for its subjective language favoring Van Sant, but I don't know how to do that. Blueclare 05:46, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanksgiving Prayer

The film "Thanksgiving prayer" of 1991 is not the same film as the link points to. The "Thanksgiving prayer" by Gus Van Sant is a filmed reading by William S. Burroughs, not a song by Jimmy Stewart. I have no idea how to edit the movie list at the bottom, but some editor can fix it I hope. See [1] for more information.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.226.216.118 (talkcontribs) 02:04, April 12, 2007

Cannes

Why are the Canne's awards left out of the awards section under his photograph? I mean, he won the Palm d'Or AND Best Director for Elephant... that's a bit bigger than a Cesar nomination in my opinion (even an academy award nomination really...).—Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.200.169.230 (talkcontribs) 01:58, May 3, 2007

Fair use rationale for Image:To die for imp.jpg

Image:To die for imp.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Place of Residence

I'm fairly certian that Mr. Van Sant lives in Lake Oswego, Oregon, not Portland, Oregon, as the wiki indicates... but, im not changing it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.236.199.230 (talk) 23:55, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Imagine what Wikipedia would be like if people added anything they were 'fairly certain' of. 210.49.216.238 (talk) 23:58, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Middle name

Green or Greene ? This article uses both. -- Beardo (talk) 17:27, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

General Cleanup Needed

This article is written with lots of POV and very few citations. It needs to be less journalistic and more encyclopedic - wish I had time to fix even the big problems ("Erin said..." - without even identifying Erin??). An expert would have better access to cites. 98.232.58.2 (talk) 22:10, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

The Erin bit was simply vandalism. I've removed it. Katr67 (talk) 06:45, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

Inline citations

I am continuing the process of adding much-needed citations to this article; it seems that, due to Van Sant's status, it is fairly straightforward to find appropriate citations for him.--Soulparadox (talk) 01:31, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

Clean up still needed

Two notes have been left on this Talk page calling for a clean up of the article. It does lack cites for many sections. As the director is very well know, it should not be hard to verify many of the statements. I'll work through it, but help would be appreciated. 79616gr (talk) 15:23, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
