Dependencies[edit]

The listed dependencies are the following:

  • intltool,
  • autotools,
  • libsdl2 and/or sfml,
  • libgtk-3 or libqt5,
  • portaudio19,
  • libpng,
  • libavcodec,
  • libavutil,
  • libv4l,
  • libudev,
  • libusb-1.0,
  • libpulse (optional)
  • libgsl0 (optional)

so it is rather an Simple DirectMedia Layer (SDL) then a GTK or Qt application. I guess the dependency on libv4l Video4Linux makes Guvcview "Linux only" software. User:ScotXWt@lk 10:13, 22 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Wishful Thinking[edit]

What I really would love to see is:

  • a documentation here and on the homepage http://guvcview.sourceforge.net/index.html of what this program can actually do in detail.
  • a more specific description on Ubuntu Software (both user centric, not programmer centric!). All this would enable people to decide if it is for them.
  • the ability to choose a location for saving files (Cheese is good at this)

Thanks for your suggestions here. On the first point, we can only work with the references that we have, as per WP:V. So if the software project developers or some tech media have reported on this then we can add it here and cite that source.
As for point two, I am not sure what you mean by "a more specific description on Ubuntu Software". Do you mean in the Ubuntu Software application (ie GNOME Software)?
As for your third point, that is really a "feature request" and would have to be sent to the software developers. Here we just report on what the software is or does. This isn't the place to get software changed. - Ahunt (talk) 13:15, 8 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your reply! You are right about your points. Yes, by "Ubuntu Software" I mean the app by this name, this is how it calls itself. I am aware that feature requests don't belong here but had hoped the talk section would be ok so the devs might see my suggestions. I wasn't able to find a forum or an email address to place them. If you want to, you can delete my post here. --Poco4 (talk) 09:21, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
