Confusion[edit]

In the second source American Naval Fighting Ships, the entry for HMS Pretext includes the words: "She continued in this duty until 1961 and scrapped". In the article intro, the main body and the infobox, it states: "foundered off the coast of Canada in November 1982". So, we have a 21 year discrepancy and unanswered questions here, assuming that Pretext and HMNZS Endeavour are one and the same.

Anyone know which is the right 'fate'?

I served aboard an HMS Artic Endeavour in 1965, as part of a geophysical exploration team. At that time, home port was Halifax, NS; though, we worked from Sydney, NS to explore the Grand Banks. One brief stop in New Foundland. This same ship was also covered briefly in a Natl Geo 1983 television special (though, likely produced prior to 1983) concerning the hunting of infant harp seals. This ship was launched in 1944 and appears to be the same vessel; so, the offshore New Foundland fate seems more likely. Not a definitive answer, but perhaps useful information. A rather belated thankyou for the info - I'll put this page on my watchlist now. RASAM (talk) 22:36, 13 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
