The Name[edit]

Shikari is an unusual name for a British warship. What does it refer to and why was it chosen? Norvo (talk) 22:51, 28 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A shikari (Urdu: شکاری‎) is a big game hunter or hunting guide in Pakistan and India. As to why it was chosen, the Royal Navy needed a LOT of names for destroyers - Shikari was one of 69 S-class destroyers and many of the previous R-class also had names starting with the letter S.Nigel Ish (talk) 09:46, 29 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
