Anecdote[edit]

It was Hal W. Smith -- the other Hal Smith -- who hit the memorable home run to put the Pirates ahead in the Seventh Game of the 1960 World Series, setting the stage for the even more memorable Bill Mazeroski homer. However, Hal R. Smith -- this Hal Smith -- later became a coach with the Pirates. Naturally, Pittsburgh fans erroneously associated this man with the historic event, and he was often forced to disclaim the fame. WHPratt (talk) 13:02, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I do recall that the National League statistics used to use each Hal Smith's middle initial now and again to disambiguate. That might justify adding it to the article titles. WHPratt (talk) 22:36, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
