Comments[edit]

I've found a lot of major issues with this article:

  • Despite the first, very thorough review, there are still a lot of prose issues that require copy edits. I know I've said this before, but you really should solicit someone from the Copy Editors' Guild (or another set of eyes at least) to look over an article before you nominate it.
  • Lead: "It originally aired on October 27, 2010 on the ABC network in the United States.[1] " No need to cite this (should already be cited in article body)
  • Wikilink characters in lead and plot
  • "Gloria (Sofía Vergara) acts weird after Jay..." acts weird is not encyclopedic; reword
  • ""Halloween" received mostly positive reviews from critics, with Donna Bowman of The A.V Club comparing it to the first season's critically praised episode, "Fizbo" and was also named among the best 2010 episodes of Modern Family. " This sentence is a mess; either split up or use semi-colons
  • "Phil soon assumes Claire concentration of completing the haunted house is a sign she isn't loving him anymore. " What?
  • "He soon does the opposite of what Gary did that caused the demise of his marriage, like being spontaneous, with all of Phil's attempts failing." Needs major rewording
  • "Meanwhile, Gloria (Sofía Vergara) gets offended by Manny (Rico Rodriguez) and Jay (Ed O'Neill) correcting her accent." Identify their relationship to each other (i.e. son and husband)
  • "At Claire's finished haunted house, everything goes wrong with Jay late at activating the effects, Gloria speaking in her "english" voice, and Cameron won't stop talking about his "traumatic" Halloween story. " Wow, this needs complete rewording. You see what I meant about having others look it over before nominating?
  • Production: Wikilink Michael Spiller and Jeffrey Richman. Plus identify who they are (producers?)
  • "Ferguson later said in an interview that:[8]" Move ref 8 to end of quote. Plus list full name for Ferguson (you haven't mentioned them in this section yet)
  • Ferguson later submitted the episode for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.[9] and is currently nominated, competing against costars Stonestreet, Burrell and O'Neill.[10] Delete/move information to awards section
  • Production section could be beefed up, as I know there is still info out there. There is a little on Gloria in this TV Guide interview you could use. This AOL TV featurette has the cast discussing Halloween. There's more on guest stars here (and also add them to infobox).
  • There are a number of cultural references from a number of reliable sources that I feel you could add to the article (especially from the characters' costumes). See the reviews from the LA Times, The Atlantic, Entertainment Weekly, among others
  • "Added with the Digital video recorder viewers, the..." Change to incorporate Time shifting (or at least reword sentence)
  • Make sure sentences with quotes end with citations (mostly needed in reception section)
  • "She named Gloria's "reaction shot when he inevitably unwraps a package of tiny Jesus figurines" and "Sofia Vergara's version of a typical American accent" the most "fun".[18] " Can probably convert those two first quotes into prose
  • "It was later named it the eleventh best television episode of 2010 by the website.[20] " website -> TV Guide
  • Find another negative review (looks awkward having such a small paragraph)
  • It looks the episode aired during Sweeps. Incorporate into ratings section

Another major issue is with the references.

  • Don't use in caps in ref titles
  • ABCmedianet is not italicized. Also, be consistent when using this source (make sure all are not italicized; remove ".com")
  • IMDb is not a reliable source
  • TVsquad.com -> TV Squad
  • Use consistent date formatting (September 5, 2011 versus 2011-09-05)
  • Zap2it is not italicized
  • Los Angeles Times is italicized
  • It's TV by the Numbers
  • Time is italicized
  • TV Guide is italicized
  • The A.V. Club is italicized
  • Refs 23 and 24 -> Use Academy of Television Arts & Sciences

Honestly these look like too many issues to resolve within seven days. Fix the above issues; you can always renominate it later. You might want to ask someone to look over the article before you resubmit it. Regards, Ruby comment! 22:44, 5 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
