Lumberman's Team[edit]

@NatureBoyMD: Cannot confirm it's him in this picture but will eat their baseball caps if it isn't him or his brother. Cake (talk) 14:42, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@MisterCake: I have to agree with you. There's a strong chance it's him. Whichever baseball guide this is from might offer more clues as to the identity of "Love" in the photo, such as a first initial. NatureBoyMD (talk) 14:59, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It's 1908 and have not yet found the source, but like you say it's definitely one of the guides like Spalding or Reach. Looks like he has a golfer's hat on or something. There is the picture of him in the top hat, but otherwise the picture without the hat is always used of him. Hard to tell if he wears glasses or not, as his brother John wore glasses, but it does not look like it. Hamilton seems more apt to be into baseball. Then again the difference in clothes might put him in some managerial or ownership role, and John was really the boss, and later was "vice president of amusements" at Coney Island. So while I doubt it's John it would not shock me. Cake (talk) 15:07, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Found it: Reach's 1908, page 500 [1], but it looks like the photo is the only reference to the team. NatureBoyMD (talk) 15:25, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Good find. The "Nashville City League" might be the key. Cake (talk) 16:17, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
"Nothing has happened to Memphis, the threats of the Nashville lumbermen's baseball team to the contrary notwithstanding." Cake (talk) 16:32, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
