Having come across http://www.dreamnation.fsnet.co.uk/hammer.html we may have a possible copyvio on some of the text. GraemeLeggett 20:18, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good find. Unless we can show the perosn who added the text is the person who wrote the site then the bulk of this has to go (along with much of the ABC Warriors entry on him - although that needed slimming down due to this entry). I suggest we remove most of this, stick that link in and the end (as we don't need all the detail tht page supplies) and start again. He is an important figure as he has seen much of the 2000 AD univese evolve (something we need to emphasise) and so I'd suggest we break it down into sections like The Volgan War, Mars, The Great Atomic War, Ro-Busters and Termight and we can expand on his role in them (and link through the relevant sections which deal with the events in more detail). Also worth a mention is that a version of his story is the basis of SHOK! which was lifted and used in the film Hardware. Thoughts? (Emperor 02:01, 10 July 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Continuity error?[edit]

The article suggests that Hammerstein joined (was bought by) Ro-Busters in Mega-City One, after having taken part in the war between President Booth and the Judges. This seems to be contradicted by the Ro-Busters article, and certainly my own recollection of the latter was that they were based in Britain, and that the story was set sometime before the foundation of the Mega-Cities and the Judge system (I do also recall a flashback episode of Ro-Busters where Hammerstein was told that the foundations for MC1 were being built). The Ro-Busters article is incorrect. The Ro-Busters team operated from its Devil's Island base, the area later being used by Mega-City One Judges. There is, however, an internal inconsistency with the Hammerstein article. It states that Hammerstein lies dormant for 43 years in the Cursed Earth prior to his being reactivated. This contradicts 2000 AD's shared universe chronology. Hammerstein fights as part of Booth's Presidential Guard during the War of Armageddon in 2071. Hammerstein is later sold off as army surplus c. 2078 (the date that Ro-Busters is set when it first appeared). The 43 year time span was an editorial decision, iirc, so that the Hammerstein four-parter would better coincide with the Dredd film. --HalfWhit 15:41, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Given the copyright violations that this entry seems to have I'd suggest removing the bulk of it and starting again - as mentioned above we break it down into sections and build back up from there. I'd certianly rather we did this before anyone wastes their time editting faulty information. Thoughts? (Emperor 15:56, 11 July 2006 (UTC))[reply]

I can confirm that the Ro busters in Starlord were of UK origin if not actually based in the UK. There is evidence for this in the manufacturer's names of the various robots, Mr 10 percent was an organic/robot composition and was manufactured by Rolls Royce, Mek quake the destruction robot carried a Ford UK plate and Hammmerstein had the Rover brand name on his casing, (Rover also produced a car with a single cyclopean headlight, maybe this was a visual pun by the artist who gave Hammerstein the head we first saw with it's single eye). Ro jaws had no name plate as he was a rejected model, the makers removed his plate when he was sold off. Angel, the med droid had no name plate which was apparently to make hygiene maintenance easier. It has to be at least 28 years since I saw a copy of Starlord but this was all explained in a reply to a fan letter in one of the first 5 or 6 issues. Merge Hammerstein with ABC Warriors[edit]

Just a suggestion, mind. However, given that we've now got a fairly comprehensive timeline on the 2000 AD article, I'd also suggest the basic template I've been using for the Harlem Heroes article might be worth a go. We would have an ABC Warriors [first series] section with a brief summary and episode guide, followed by the same for Hammerstein, Ro-Busters, and ABC Warriors [second series]. We should probably include the mek-troop episodes from Judge Dredd "The Cursed Earth" and the Shok! one-off Ro-Jaws Robo-Tale. --HalfWhit 21:47, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm unsure what you are suggesting. I'd not favour merging Hammerstein with ABC Warriors (which is what the title says) as his story is a much bigger one than that. What I would suggest (which is sort of what I suggested above) is that remove the bulk of the article as it is violating copyright. We then split it down into the various sections of his life (like what you've done at Harlem Heroes) and then we can give a shortish paragraph on each stage and (where it exists) link through to the relevant section which deals with that stage of his story - Volgans, ABC Warriors, Ro-Busters, Judge Dredd (The Cursed Earth), Nemesis the Warlock, etc. So we keep this entry but in a more stripped down form with other entries telling the various bits of his story as he drops in and drops out on the 2000 AD universe. Thoughts? (Emperor 13:30, 15 July 2006 (UTC))[reply]
That sounds fine and kinda what I had in mind. I just wasn't sure if Hammerstein warranted an entire article to himself. --HalfWhit 20:32, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh very much so - he must be one of the most important characters in the 2000 AD universe. If we agreed then I'll make a start on stripping the entry back tomorrow and we can build it back up again. (Emperor 00:24, 16 July 2006 (UTC))[reply]
Sounds like a plan. I've made a start on revamping the Ro-Busters article and, just for the moment, added some trivia to the ABC Warriors. --HalfWhit 13:02, 16 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
OK I have hacked it back and started rebuilding from the ground up (as we probably didn't need usch a big block of text) - splitting it up into sections and sketching out a quick sentence and then linking through to the relevant section. It'll need more fleshing out and my next job will be working on the Volgans entry as it makes sense to have the Volgan War business there and link across to it. Thoughts? Ideas? (Emperor 00:08, 17 July 2006 (UTC))[reply]
Oh yiss, that's much better. I've made a few minor edits, mainly to correct The Cursed Earth section, as well as adding Prog numbers and timeline links. --HalfWhit 10:14, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent its shaping up. One theme I was thinking about is that a lot of these events hinge on Hammerstein's decision of what is right and wrong so that might be an angle worth examining (and appropriate in his own entry). (Emperor 13:13, 17 July 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Hammerstein/Dredd[edit]

Although not linked in the text (as that would be original research) the fact that Hammerstein appears in Judge Dredd the comic in the same yea he appears in Judge Dredd the film can't be a coincidence. The issue then arises was the story written as a tie-in with the film (otherwise his appearance would have been bizarre) or was it that the story was in the offing and they picked up on it? Given that there was always some friction between the Millsiverse and the Judge Dredd universe (as laid out by John Wagner) it seems like an odd land-grab/crossover to pull out of the blue. One thing is that it does seem to have parallels with SHOK! especially, how it was turned into Hardware.

Bottom line it should be easy enough to show which came first - is there not an interview or director's commentary that mentions this? Perhaps it isn't important enough to mention but I suspect there is more to the two sections there and it is a pity we can't find a way to link them. (Emperor 03:10, 24 September 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Other elements in the Robusters and ABC Warrior stories link Hammerstein to being in the same "world" as Dredd. Hammerstein's war memories - one of the members of the human platoon he serves in says he is going to return home after the war to build Mega-city One. On Mars, the warriors fight Golgotha, the offspring/descendent of the tyrannosaur Satanus (itself related to Old One Eye of Flesh Book 1) who Dredd meets in The Cursed Earth. Satanus also appears in Nemesis the Warlock. GraemeLeggett (talk) 20:12, 22 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Creator Credit[edit]

Unless they are one & the same it's usual to credit the writer and the artist as the creators of a comicbook character. Carlos Pino drew the 1st episide in Starlord but in the Starlord entry is states 'Ro-Busters, a robot disaster squad created by writer Pat Mills and artist Kevin O'Neill, although it was more usually drawn by Carlos Pino or Dave Gibbons.' Either way shouldn't an artist be credited? Malak1000 (talk) 11:28, 15 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
