Death?[edit]

Some news articles are reporting the death of Hamza bin Laden.--Smart30 (talk) 05:27, 2 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The New York Times has reported it now.--Banana (talk) 04:59, 3 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If at some point we can be reasonably certain of the identification of the body, should we link to Reuters' post-action photos, one of which appears to show Hamza?

Despite some legit news media reporting it as fact, his death is speculative at the moment. I think we should wait for the officials i.e. The US Govt, The Pakistani Govt or al-Qaeda to announce his death before amending this article.-Kiwipat (talk) 22:50, 6 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Where he resides?[edit]

May 2016- unknown: http://www.breitbart.com/national-security/2016/05/17/bin-ladens-son-emerges-potential-al-qaeda-leader/

June 2016 Newsweek article by Bruce Riedel http://www.newsweek.com/how-muslim-ban-would-inspire-more-terrorist-attacks-473223 "More recently, Hamza bin Laden, the son of Al-Qaeda's founder, has issued two messages from his hideout in Pakistan urging lone wolf attacks in Europe, America and Israel."

This July 2016 Associated Press article says his whereabouts are unknown http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2016/07/10/world/middleeast/ap-ml-bin-laden-us.html "His son's whereabouts is not known."

Info Box issues[edit]

Hamza was born in 1989 yet it says he has been serving with Al-Qaeda since 1989 to present. I don't think it's a very accurate statement. 184.178.219.137 (talk) 16:58, 18 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Report of his death[edit]

As of July 31 there is an unconfirmed report that U.S. Intelligence believes he is dead. No other details, and no confirmation. I have put just that much in the article text. Please do not add a death date (no date has been reported, it could have been months ago) to the infobox, and do not say anything in the article lead section, until we get more information. -- MelanieN (talk) 18:37, 31 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I can see it is going to be necessary to put this in the lead section - properly qualified - to keep people from claiming that he was killed (we don't know that) or when (the reporting suggests it must have been some time earlier than the July 31 report). -- MelanieN (talk) 20:03, 31 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
OK, the New York Times has now confirmed it. It is not known when he died - sometime in the last two years - or how, except that he was killed and the U.S. Government "had a role" in the killing. However, they didn't obtain confirmation of his death until recently. This is now in the article. -- MelanieN (talk) 21:10, 31 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Did the NYT echo the same story, or did they independently confirmed it? What did they confirm: his death or the reports that "U.S. Intelligence" believes he is dead? The original NBC article only says 3 "government officials" claim the U.S. obtained "intelligence" that he is dead. This gives us little reason to be confident the info is very likely or almost certainly true. Take a look at this page, reports in March thru May 2019 have claimed he is dead. It is true that the media is widely now reporting the (most recent) claim, but I see no authoritative source, let alone "confirmation".40.142.185.108 (talk) 23:36, 31 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
1) The NYT had its own sources (two); they were not echoing NBC, which had three sources. 2) They confirmed that the US has intelligence that he is dead; obviously they had no way to independently confirm his death. 3) All the sources are anonymous. None of the information is official or "authoritative". It would be very unlikely for anyone to officially confirm something that is based on secret sources. -- MelanieN (talk) 17:30, 1 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This article is messed up[edit]

I lack the expertise to fix this, but the formatting in this article is broke. I'm not sure how to properly notify someone of this, apologies, but hopefully an admin sees this.

I have cleaned this article formatting up now. --Jordanjonesuk (talk) 11:11, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The language and grammar used in the article is very poor and needs to be rewritten. 217.42.226.209 (talk) 19:19, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Jordanjonesuk: It was all because this User 79.68.10.212 removed content from the article and broke the formatting, but I have retrieved the removed content again and the formatting has been fixed.
