A fact from Hans Otto Jung appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 29 December 2017 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
I dropped by here because HOJ was added to the List of jazz pianists, which I monitor. Was he really a (professional rather than amateur) jazz pianist? I see that he played in some necessarily underground groups during WW2. There were even some private recordings, apparently released in 1986, although I don't know if he played on them. The sentence "The broadcaster Hessischer Rundfunk aired in 1946/47 a show with him as the solo pianist, playing in the style of Teddy Wilson" isn't sourced, as the one given does not contain any of that information. He features a lot in the book Different Drummers: Jazz in the Culture of Nazi Germany, which looks at least similar to Gewagtes Spiel: Jazz im Nationalsozialismus, but that doesn't say that he was really a musician, more that he was a talented pianist, which isn't the same thing. If a jazz pianist is only someone who plays as his main profession, just drop him from the list. His playing with Emil Mangelsdorff and others in the sextet is well documented, but he made money running the family business, not by playing. - English is not my first language, but I'd say he was really a musician, as I understand musician. It doesn't need to be as the main profession, but at least in a professional capacity for a period of time, which might be covered by the playing you mentioned. The German Wikipedia version (based on translation) states that he played bass post-war, which confuses things. Anyway, a source or two for the piano would be good. By "lexicon entry" do you mean Carlo Bohländer, Reclams Jazzführer? I could get hold of it, but then wouldn't be able to understand it! Maybe contact the German Wikipedia writers (apparently they're very active on the jazz side there)? That's good that you knew him; it sounds like he experienced a lot.
